Stupid question!!.....
I apologise in advance for my stupidity but what does an Usher do???
Im only asking because Tony's brother is kinda part of in the wedding party as he is wearing the suit and we have given him a couple of tasks. Does this make him an Usher???

well an usher at our wedding (in church) stands at door of church and tells people where to sit in the church and hands out orders of services. Thats it. oh and theres usually one from the brides and one from the grooms side (family or friends) - that any help?

Thanks! That does help! As our ceremony is a non-traditional civil ceremony people wont be shown where to sit or have an order of service. We have given him the tasks of handing out favours as people arrive at the ceremony (mini hand carved welsh love spoons) and he will be in charge of getting people to sign our guest book in the evening.
Do you think that still makes him an Usher???

i guess you can call him what you like (within reason!!!) - i think they are called ushers because they 'usher' people to the right place but do you really need to "call him" anything? I mean "personwhogivesoutfavours(minihandcarvedwelshloves poons)andisinchargeofgettingpeopletosignoutguestbo ok" isnt exactly a title that trips off the tongue?!
p.s another job you may find it useful if he did (depending on what you want) is to get him to go around with a disposable camera (b and w?) and take informal shots of the guests whilst you guys are having photos done - what do you reckon?

hehehehe! Nah it doesnt really roll of the tounge doe it!
Well the main reason i ask is because we are buying cufflinks for the 'best man', 'groom', 'father of the bride' and 'father of the groom'. So i was wondering if i should get him a pair saying 'usher'.
I dont want him to feel left out!
PS- We are having disposable cameras on the tables anyway.

yeah i would just get him usher ones - i mean he's helping isnt he?! we are having the tables on the cameras too but i think we might get someone to go around just so you get some 'proper' photos of everyone and also to fill the time during which photos are being taken (keeping that to ABSOLUTE minimum though!!!)

well at my wedding I didn't want people that knew me on one side and his on other for a few reasons, 1. I think people should sit where they want
2. we only had a small wedding and there are more of his family
3. the people we invited we both knew them.
Anyway so the boys just came in with Nathan and stood with him.

Thats similar to my situation Spicey. We are only having a small wedding and i think people should sit where they want, and there are more of my guests than Tony's.
But Tony wanted his brother to be involved!

hmmmmm yes we are having ushers but people are sitting where they like so no real ushering involved?!
There are orders of service though (or fingers crossed there will be - still need to make them!!)

Well neither of us want people to be told where to sit and they cant sit on the brides or groom side because of limited seating.
But this way he is still involved.
Tony will probably find more for him to do on the day anyway!
