Following newbie Jo's post in another thread, I've been having a look at this website www.honeymoney.co.uk as it could be the answer to our dilemma.
Last night, Al and I were considering cancelling our honeymoon as we'd rather use that money towards foundations for making a baby Barlow. We've already paid £925 deposit though which we would lose, plus it's the holiday of a lifetime that I can't imaging us ever managing again.
What would you think if you were given this as a gift list? Would you want to contribute to the honeymoon or would you feel conned into paying for someone else's holiday?
We don't need anything for the house (except repairs and decorating) so we won't be doing a traditional gift list. We were just going to ask for vouchers or cash.

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.
We actually booked our honeymoon with BA Holidays and they ran a voucher scheme, we paid in full and then re-deemed the vouchers we got after the wedding for a FAT refund hehe....it helped a lot.
We did another smaller list with the sh*test department store known to man, also known as Debenhams, so if people felt funny giving travel vouchers there were some small housey pressie options too.
But as all of you on here know I was BORN to travel...most of our friends thought it was an appropriate way to give us a gift…..luckily for us…..
I say go for it... if you're a 'hitcher' you maybe able to get the free set-up promotion!! Not sure if you read the T&Cs but they do take 9% of the money as their fee... To be honest we will be adding a couple of pounds to each thing we put on there to cover that 9%! May sound a bit rude but at the moment we don't know exact prices anyway so most will be a guess...
The woman who runs Honeymoney is actually a 'hitcher' so maybe worth popping over there and speaking to her!
Thanks Jo, I'm off to moonlight on Hitched for a bit then :aboo:

Hmm... I see Trailfinders do a gift list as well and that is who we're actually booked through so I don't think there are any charges. Does anyone have experience of this?

Trailfinders are always being recommended, they look ok actually... I just preferred the look of Honeymoney! I guess if you're booking through them and they don't charge it would be the obvious choice... I think some hitchers have done their list through Trailfinders!
I've been posting over on the "other" side this evening, you may recognise my threads

I think that is a great idea. Trailfinders are supposed to be good and I know a few people that have used them.
We asked for holiday vouchers as wedding presents too. We'd already booked our honeymoon but we asked for Thomas Cook vouchers and used them for a holiday back in the summer. Everyone thought it was a great idea although a few people bought us presents instead. We'd already been living together for a while and had most of the things that we need for our home so did this instead.
I don't think people will mind contributing to a holiday. I'm sure they would rather do something like that than buy you a kettle or toaster that you don't want or need.

Some days it just isnt worth chewing through the leather straps in the morning!
I did the same!!! My friends and family bought for us a wonderful trip to Mexico!
Only the old people didn't like the idea...So, when they asked me what I wanted as a present, I told them few things I needed. They freely chose, and I had something useful...I have to say it worked out!
I have never heard of this idea before but think it is a lovely idea i might not of done this if i had known when i got wed but only because i darent i hated it when people asked us what we wanted i kept saying oh nothing just be there in the end we just asked for vouches to certain shops we liked to buy for the house and we then had fun shopping for housey things we wanted, we have had our house together for awhile now and didnt need to start afreash but as were doing it up we brought certain things we liked to go with our rooms.
so that worked for us if this works for you and i think it will then go for it i think it is a up and happening idea you enjoy the bennifits and like it says your guests will see it go on something special to you and you will have great memories of your gifts
