Default We found the (almost) perfect reception venue

Its absolutely gorgeous, but there are a few problems (why am I not suprised?) lol.

First of all the hall we need is booked!! But its only provisionally booked at the minute, so if the other couple decide they want to go ahead with it, we will have to talk about changing our date.

And the minimum numbers for the hall is 70, and at the minute our guest list is only 50-60, so we will need to find more guests.

And finally (phew!), Its about 35-45 minutes drive away from the church and my mum seems to think thats too far to expect guests to travel.

What do u all think? All ur opinions will be greatfully received.

Why can nothing ever be simple??

Firstly - YAY!

Now, about it being booked. We were told the same thing and were waiting around for a bit to see if the other people pulled out. Luckily they did, so fingers crossed the same happens for you. Have you thought about maybe changing your date? You could maybe go for a Friday wedding, you might even find them a bit cheaper then

The numbers - will they not allow any less than that number at all? Or maybe you could agree to paying a small fee for having less than the minimum? Our venue normally adds £300 if you dont have more than 50 people, but because we are having aFriday wedding thats been waived... I think!

I dont think the distance is a problem as long as you make arrangements for everyone and make everyone aware that they will need to travel.

Good luck!

I agree with Bev. As long as you do tell your guests that there will be travelling involved in getting to the venue, there should be no problem. If your set on that venue, maybe you could change the date or hold out and see if the othe people pull out of their booking.

Thanx! I think we are just gonna wait and see what the other couple decide first, and if we have to we will change our date. We will more than likely go for the following Saturday, as opposed to a Friday or weekday where our guests will need to take time off work. I will speak to the hotel and my mum and dad to see about the numbers thing!

Hi Laura

I don't know of any wedding in NI that I have been to where you didn't have some distance to travel to the reception. The furtherest was from Cookstown to Belfast Castle!lol

What is the name of your venue?

Hello again Laura...

We're getting married in Carrickfergus, and our reception in in the Old Inn, Crawfordsburn - I've probably told you that before!

I agree with Karen, you do tend to travel quite a bit in NI to get to a reception venue..It will take people about 35-40 minutes getting to ours if the A2 isn't too busy! LOL

Trying to work out where takes 45 minutes to get to from South Belfast now.....

I have been to a wedding reception in the old inn Diane - it was lovely. The following day most of us went for a walk on the beach nearby to get over the hangovers!!lol

Ah yes. Nothing will blow the cobwebs off you like a walk along Helen's Bay!

I get good reports about the Old Inn, so that's really good - usually as soon as you mention somewhere, SOMEBODY tells you a tale of woe about the food, the room, the service yada yada....

And you should SEE the bridal suite..Woooooooh....
