To tan or not??
I am not pale skinned, but I was toying with the idea of going for some sunbeds, not to go cat Deeley orange, but a nice health(ier!) colour, would be nice to even out my skin colour a bit. So to tan or not? What is everyone else doing?

I got a tan on holiday and now I'm going to the sunbed to keep it topped up.
Helps get rid of any strap lines left over from last year and gives you a healthy glow!!

I ahve "celtic" colouring (red hair, white skin) so can't tan. Wish I could, more for the honeymoon than the wedding I guess, brown legs look thinner and it would hide some of my frackles! (my sisters say I look like a raw chicken, which is nice of them.....)
I'd never use a sun bed though, I'm a bit paranoid about my skin. I'd definitely have a salon fake tan if I wasn't concerned about the colour they might turn me!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!
Hi Fran
My advice would be - don't go near a sunbed in a million years! This is coming from someone who has experience and, believe me, the pictures shown to me by the dermatologist I was referred to when one of my moles started bleeding would make your hair stand on end! Having a tan may make you look better and healthier but it actually means your skin is damaged and the melatonin is rushing to the surface to try to protect it. Even short term exposure is bad for your skin - it'll make you old before your time! I'm getting a tan done professionally at a salon - did it for my dress fitting and it actually looked more natural than a tan from the sun or a sunbed if that makes any sense - it's quick, easy and harmless - and it's brilliant just to lie back and be pampered for an hour! Hope I don't sound like an old fishwife, but I don't think the dangers of sunbeds are publicised nearly enough........at the end of the day though, it's entirely up to you - you'll look fab whatever you decide to do.

Please don't use the sunbed too often - it messes with the tanning pigments in your skin and can make you patchy...
I know as I now have patchy upper arms!!
Try a St Tropez trial kit to see if you like it first, now available in boots at 10.50....

The winter has left me patchy and pasty looking!! I normally have an Italian colouring, dark hair, tanned skin, but am pasty at the moment, and not my usual self. I don't want to look rough in the wedding pictures, white dress and a tan don't always go well together!!

I started going on the sunbed 8 weeks before I went to Antigua to prepare my white winter skin for the hot Caribbean sun and now don't want to go pale again before the big day...
I know the health risks and I am happy to take that risk. I only subject my skin to 1 session per week and not even every week as I don't need it, plus I have no intention of having more than 20 sessions in a year which is the recommended maximum.
It is all down to personal choice so just go with what you feel is best for you.

Fran, your wedding's in August, just wait and see if normal life in the summer helps your skin pick up first, I know it helps mine - my spots get better and dry bits go...
If you are out and about in full sunshine though, make sure you're wearing an appropriate top - to avoid strap marks!

Hi Roz,
Thats partly the reason for the sun beds, I still have strap marks from last year!! I have a halter neck one, and the ordinary over the shoulders jobby!! And I don't want to have more strap marks, so was going to fill em in a bit!! lol The sun beds are only for 5 minutes at a time, so your not blasting your skin with UV rays for an hour or so. For £28 I can get 5 sessions @ 5 minutes each.

my sister uses sunbeds a lot (wrong i know) and she is starting to go orange in my opinion. I tan quite easily so if we have a good summer, i wont bother, but if not, then i am thinking about going on a sun bed a couple of times

I was and still am a bit a sun worshiper I have olive skin and dark hair, but have had two moles removed and as I get older I get them checked out regular.
when young I used olive oil and vinegar to tan and subeds for an hour a day when i was 17.
30% only of your skins make up is genetic the rest is enviromental, I now am very consious how daily that i look after myself in the sun my moisuteriser has a spf and vitamins that's all they need same for my body lotion.
I have to say that when looking at bridal mags and famous brides I know posh spice uses st tropez but other are relativley pale and look lovely
I to want to look healthy but I will not use a sunbed,
I will
Exfoliate regular and moisture face and body
drink plenty water
take milk thistle and well woman tablets been taking these for 2 months now
If in sun wear a sun cream even over here
this way I shall look natural and glowing I prefer to have kylie minogue kind of radiance than posh spice.
I have to say I had a st tropez at christmas and wasn't overly pleased they exfoliate you and then apply it lasted about 4 days and I have olive skin then it went patchy. My friend also had one done for a weddign and wasn't struck.
I would and think of having a Clarins fake tan very natural as it works with your own tones of skin. So this would be my option
sorry if this goes on but my close freind is a beauty therapist and the other is a nutitionist.
