Naff or not??
At the moment I'm struggling to come up with a decent wedding gift for Bob as he's the type of person that buys whatever he wants whenever he wants it. And yes, it makes it very difficult for birthdays and Christmas!
Anyway, I've been hunting on the net today and come up with the idea of naming a star Mr Robert & Mrs Laurie Conway on our wedding day. The certificate will then have that name and the wedding date and should be visible on the night of the wedding.
What do you think?

 laurie,
i dont think its naff at all i want to do something like this which is a bit different but thought has obviousley gone into. Theres another similiar thing like that when you buy an acre of the moon or another planet and you get a certificate etc i think they are both really sweet things to do and i will be doing one or the other!

That sounds great Laurie - not a bit naff!! Sounds more exciting than a watch, which is what I'll get for Nick - he loves watches!

I think that is a lovely idea Laurie.
On the same celestial theme, I am buying Brett an acre of the moon for his birthday but have not even thought about a wedding present yet!

I'll probably come across like a hardened cynic now, but anyway...LOL
I don't like the whole name a star/buy an acre of the moon idea, because the only people it seems to benefit are the ones doing the selling...
..so it got me thinking - what similar thing could you do that would be nice...what about planting a tree? Considering the loss of the green belt, I think its a lovely idea - you can get a certificate & it's very easy to do. The Woodland Trust has details of how to do it.

I think it is a nice idea, but I agree that something permanent or something you can see is a nice idea to. I think you should do whatever suits you best!!

Thanks Guys!
The idea of a tree had never occurred to me, I guess I take them for granted living in the New Forest, but I will definitely be looking into that too.

My sis got H2B and me and tree!
She works for BTCellnet (now Co2) and they gave all staff the opportunity to plant as MANY trees as they wanted to family and friends for free!!
We got a certificate and she put
"A l'il tree for a l'il sis. Planted for you and Andy so your love can grow on forever"
I bawled my eyes out

Hi
Would like to say that the tree idea is good because is something u can go and see but as for the stars and moon idea at the risk of sounding negative when you look in the sky how can u be sure that it is your star????
At the end of the day if thats what u want then go for it but thats just my personal view

I agree with Cariad - stars are not for anyone too claim and name and I'd be very suspicious of the credials of the whole thing - they are just making money! You must think it a little naff to have asked so sorry I think you should go with something else - the tree is a good one. Does he like animals? If you have a good local zoo you can adopt an animal and at least you knoww the money will go towards their upkeep.

Having bought my H2B a star from the International Star Registry for our 1st anniversary of being together last year, I can vouch that it make a phenomenal gift, but it IS only you and whoever you're giving it to and obviously the sellers who are benefiting from it. It is not exactly cheap and you don't actually own the star or anything else, but it's a lovely gesture - my H2B loved it. We're planting a tree as a wedding gift for my friend who gets married 4 weeks before me. I want to get her something a bit different but I also don't agree with her gift list so this is a good compromise. I think either would be great - only you know which one will mean the most to him..........and you could always do the other one for your 1st anniversary (you get certificates for both so technically, that's paper!)

Hmm... I was feeling sentimental and started reading some of my old threads and this one has given me inspiration. (Oh, and I didn't get Bob anything in the end )
Al is nothing like Bob as he DOES have a soppy and emotional side. I think that the 'name a star' (seeing as the price has come right down over the last three years and we both love looking at the stars) teamed with some sort of 'adopt an animal' (seeing as we both love animals but have no more room for another rescue dog just yet) could be perfect.
Thanks Lo for reminding me it was my Groovy anniversary or I'd never have re-read this in a million years.
