Not sure of size of wedding dress, possibly treble figures, don\'t care, but normally 20-24 in size depending on where I shop and what clothes I get. :)

Hi Maz! Welcome!!! :D
Ian Stuart - lovely dresses, I liked a couple of his, but on a bit of a budget. :( Mind you I swore blind I wasn\'t wearing a traditional white gown until I was duped into it by a shop assistant (oh well, atleast it\'s flattering ;)).

Am I allowed in here?
5ft 8 ish (maybe a bit more)
size 16 (although today I\'d tell you I feel like an 18 - been shopping for party clothes, no luck yet!)
So I\'m borderline for \"normal\" clothing ranges.
Even when I was slimmer(smallish size 14) I couldn\'t fit into Oasis size 16s.
Curvy girls might find wedding dresses quite a treat, I know I did, as I\'ve tried on things several sizes smaller than I normally would as they\'ve all got full skirts!
Day to day thoug, I get very frustrated and cross
Maz, at 5ft 11 I\'m not surprised you\'re bigger than the average, I know if I was any smaller I\'d look silly, my big sister is 5\'11\" ish and maybe a 12, she looks like she\'d snap.
Anyway, sometimes I\'m happy and sometimes I\'m not. I\'m not here to make people cross by complaining about my size, I\'d like to be more toned but my size doesn\'t really bother me.
But smile on girls, wedding dresses look much better with something in them! ;) :D
Love and hugs,
Roz,xxx

Ofcourse your welcome Roz! :D
I have to say although I\'m very big I do see how wedding dreses perhaps favour the fuller figure if you get the right one that it ;)). Especially the current trend for two piece corsety things - very flattering to the larger size, and add curves in all the right places.
And I agree with you Roz, there is something decidedly wrong witht the sizing structure stores use. I was at some stage a size 16 once and I remember not being able to get int to anything from the main high street stores (anyone remember Chelsea Girl!? :D). I think it was M&S, C&A and BHS only for me.
I would love to shift some of the weight at some stage, but I think I have to learnt to be comfy with who I am first before that becomes a priority because it will take a long time for it to start fallling off!

Hi everyone!
I\'m BIG and I\'m GORGEOUS!!!!!
well I am!!!!!
stats:
5\'7\"
19st 7lb
size 24!!
Cool thread,I\'m lucky I\'ve found the dress of my dreams it\'s gold/ champagne and it\'s a bodice and skirt. I\'ve just put the deposit down so they\'ve started making it!!!!
I went to a little local bridal boutique tucked down an alley, it seemed to make the experience more magical for me. I didn\'t want to go to a big store they always seem so impersonal epecially to us larger than life ladies, well I\'d heard lots of horror stories anyway (don\'t they realise we actually make the dresses look better we fill them out!).

Welcome Lynsey and well said! Witht he right dress on big girls really do look ace. I cringe when I see a women in something just not right for their sixe, and I get highly pissed off when I look at wedding mags and sites and all the bigger stuff is just made in that prissy \'lets cover all your bits\' way. URGH! Someday people will relaise that that is even less flattering than showing all your bits! :P

I am so pleased you started this forum Bev! Curvy is definitely sexy. Who wants to be a twig anyway? I want one of those French revolution type dresses with a bustier and lots of cleavage, but the vicar might be shocked :o

YAY! Hello Charlotte, glad you managed to get here. ;)
Dress sounds fab! I did intend on displaying a little cleavage on the day too, but as the woman in the dress shop pointed out I\'m not the tallest of women and there is the tendancy to stare at the old bossoms whenyour looking down!!! :o So they\'ll be covered up . . until that night. :P

Assistants attitude!! Arggh
Am well chuffed to have found this page, want to see if anyone is having the same prob as me. I\'m getting married in a years time so being a sensible bunny thought I would start looking at dresses...but all the main bloody shops I\'ve gone into have been staffed by women who seem to think that all brides want to \'slim\' for their wedding day!! My chap loves whatever size I am ( a very round 22!!) and these assistants bug me no end!!
To top it all off as yet I haven\'t found the medieval dress of my dreams...any suggestions anyone????

Hello, thjs is my first post but just wanted to tell everyone. I ordered my dress!!! It was the first dress i tried on, but the woman in the shop so tactfully told me, i would have to diet if i wanted it, as they didnt do it in my size. I wasnt going to, but i was gutted i couldnt get the dress, I tried on loads of others but none were as nice. So after 3 weeks, i went back, tried it on and it fitted!! I am soooo happy. I am still an 18 and happy like that, i will just have to watch i dont put any more on again

Attitudes towards bigger brides.
I too have found some expectations that I would be slimming before the big day. Not a hope! I have been on a restricted diet for 9 months \'cos of food sensitivities, and lost a stone in the first 3 WEEKS and went down a dress size from 20 to 18 (shame I haven\'t lost any more, or gone down another size...sighs!!lol) I am feeling much better though, and between acupuncture and this diet feel a lot better than this time last year.
However, I digress. The shops where it was suggested I would be dieting will not be having the benefit of my custom when it comes to purchasing a dress. The friend who went with me had made that mistake, losing 5 stone in 6 months before her wedding - and it is now all back on, along with some extra.
MY fiance met me when i was this size, and loves me - why should I be pressured into dieting?
Incidentally one shop owner was delighted to hear I wasn\'t dieting, as she sees the pressure it puts on B2B.

I\'m amazed that people are that rude!!
I\'ve been lucky here (Australia) really - I spent one day looking around most of the big stores but all the bigger dresses were just so old fashioned. Had a disatrous go trying on my first dress in another store and oh God . . . I\'m trying to forget what I looked like. Ended up with me so upset. But we tried a local store the next day - another big woman served me and was fab - first thing she put me in was a strapless two piece!!! :o Something I would never have imagined myself wearing in a million years! And it was so flattering. Getting the right assitant makes so much difference. I mean, ok, the dress didn\'t fit me properly - she put a torsolette on me (so I had some shape and suppost) and then pinned the dress to that back of that. But that was better than I thought any of them would manage. I was so pleased with the service I didn\'t want to shop anywhere else. :D

Hello Heids!
If you don\'t have a tight budget for your dress, have you considered Rubenesque Designs or Lyndsay Flemming? They both specialise in the type of dress you are looking for and they are made too measure. I had orginally wanted the Skye B design from Lyndsey Flemming but having visited a few shops I want something strapless and sexy! Hope this helps and good luck with your search. Cazz

Hate skinny shop assistants!
Hiya all... first time here, so be gentle on me! ;) Just had to get my ha\' pennys worth in, coz this is a topic I could talk about for hours!
Im getting married next May, and was worried about finding a dress to fit (im 5\'6\", a size 22 waist but about a 26 boobs!). I went to all the shops in Manchester, and while they said they did larger sizes, they expected me to squeeze into a size 14 sample... how the hell can you see what it looks like properly!? And its so undignified standing there, with all your wobbly bits hanging out, having some skinny shop assistant poking and prodding you! So I took my money and left, and decided that for the amount i was going to pay for a dress that would have to be drastically altered, I could have one made to measure!
So now I\'ve got a lovely lady making my dress, exactly how I want it, and I feel so at ease with her, I dont care about being bigger, because I know i\'m going to look gorgeous on the day anyway now, thanks to her! :D
Now my only problem is trying to feed my bridesmaid up, because she\'s a size 10 model figure...lol
At the end of the day, if my H2B thinks i look great, then thats all I care about.
Hope everyones day goes with a swing, and that you all look bloody fantastic!
Love Dawn xxx

Even smaller size brides know what you mean
Unfortunately, even us slightly smaller\'s have the same problems looking for wedding dresses (and in my case in every day life finding clothes is a complete nightmare!!
My body seems to have put together in three sections by some half-whit Handy Andy wannabee! My chest is rather large, my waist is 24 ins (which I believe is a 10) but my hips are absolutely huge in comparison at 40 ins (size 14?). Some might think it a classic pear shape but quite frankly it takes the biscuit.
Everything I buy has to be one or two sizes bigger for my hips and then I have to pay again to have it taken in around the waist. It costs me a fortune. Don\'t get me wrong, i\'m not expecting huge amounts of sympathy here but thought I would get on my soap box and have a whinge about clothes in general - they\'re all made for stick women - PAH!
My wedding dress is beautiful but had to be bought two sizes bigger than I usually buy normal clothes in the high street and still feels very tight - woe!!
I\'m finished now - i\'m off for a stiff G&T.

Bloody shops!
I know this thread is old, but I am new and just HAD to contribute!
I went to London on saturday with my (unhelpful, but more on that later) mum to try on different styles to see what suited me. I am having my dress made as I don\'t really like a lot of the stlyes out there for us biggies! I just got really depressed as the only thing(!) I ended up trying on was an evening dress in the \'plus sizes\' section of Selfriges! My mum did not help as she kept saying \'18 months ago you were a size 14 and stunning!\' which really gave me all the confidence in the world! She recons v-necked thicker strapped dress would suit me as I am tall as well, but I have no idea as I cannot try anything on! I do know that I am having a beautiful coat made to go over the top of whatever style I end up having, so that\'s something, but I just wish stuff was made easier for us!

I have started my dress hunt again, but had to tell you about some new underwear I saw by Nancy Gants in Debenhams...
they are almost like the bottom half of a boned corset, with a tummy control panel, and suspenders, and some boning at the side to keep your waist in. I saw them in cream and black at £19. I don\'t know what they look like on though!
