Unhappy Major Problem!

Due to several unforseen events we've been left with a severe cash flow problem. We've just got a letter from the Church saying they want paying by the end of Feb! There's no way we can raise £300 cash by then unless my H2B's car sells soon for a good price and we can't rely on that happening.

So what do we do?

Hold out till the end of the month and hope the car sells? Ask the vicar if we can postpone the wedding (though this would push it into the busy months)? Cancel Church completely and forfeit the deposit and go to a register office instead?

.... and we can't afford the wedding rings either!!

well the good news is the dress is already paid for and my parents are sorting out the evening arrangements and cake.

We had planned so that we'd have the money for the church but so many unexpected things came up it's totally wiped us out.

Why not see if your bank will provide (or extend) an overdraft? Then once you DO have the £300, pay off the overdraft and cancel (or lower) it

And if the bank can't help, would you be able to ask a family member or good friend for a bridging loan?

it works out for you.

As for wedding rings, go to your local pawnbrokers and pick one up there. Or Argos or Half Price Jewellers or something. You can always upgrade as an anniversary present to each other or when you're feeling a bit more flush.

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

We might go down the borrowing of the family route though I feel bad asking Ah well when needs must....

Might also try asking the bank to extend my overdraught though I'm not entirely sure they'll play ball.

cheers for the advice folks

Just been talking to H2B about that and thought that as you suggested we could get cheaper rings for now and have them made into right hand dress rings when we can afford to get the proper wedding rings. That way we keep the rings we made our vows with but have proper everyday wedding rings and in my case the ring made to match my e-ring when our finances are a bit healthier.

You could always ask some relatives to club together to pay for the church fees? Most uncles/aunts/grandparents would understand completely that you were being stretched. We offered to pay for the church bells at a friend's wedding a couple of years ago - cos that was £80!

Is there any mileage in looking for rings on somewhere like ebay?

Could you suggest that some family members club together as an early wedding present? That way you'd not have the burden of paying it back hanging over you plus it could really make family feel they are contributing in a very real way to your big day

Good luck whatever happens

I can't add any suggestions to what's already been said but hope you sort it out.
