Question first dance song advice needed

Im having trouble choosing a song for our first dance, mainly cause my h2b is not a fan of soppy love songs or dancing so hes dreading the first dance even more than i am!!

I am a HUGE fan of Robbie Williams, Angels is my all time favourite song and it was playing when we had our first kiss, the song always takes me back to that moment and how happy and excited we were that we had Finally got it together, so I think it would be the perfect song to have our first dance to.

H2b is happy with this one until my MIL said it was innapropriate as get this, Its all about me "And through it all she offers me protection, a lot of love and affection wheather im right or wrong" the song should be about both of us being in love with each other and not just "how great the bride is". I hope I explained it ok, not really sure what shes on about myself lol!!

What do you guys think?

Angels by Robbie Williams

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old
'cos I have been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel the love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

If it's a song that means something to you both then go with that regardless of what you MIL thinks. It's your day

If you like it have it
Perfect Day by Lou Reed is deemed to be about his heroin addiction but that's still a popular wedding song.

Default Go for it

I think it sounds a perfect song - it make you think of a special time between you both and that is what its all about.
Im haveing You do something to me - Paul Weller. I am a huge fan of his and my h2b has sung it to me on karaoke a few times - I guess the song means more to me than him but it always make me smile when i think of how he got up in front on people and dedicated the song to me.
Good luck hun - do what is right for you and ignore the other

I read the link and it made me think about all the songs that can be used for both. We heard one of our songs Amazed by Lonestar at one a couple of years back. I think a lot of songs can be and are used for both. I always think Highway to Hell would have been very appropriate for my last wedding

I'm sure I read somewhere that Robbie Williams Angel was meant to be one of the most popular wedding tracks (be it during the ceremony or at the reception) so it looks as if your MIL is in the minority with her opinion.

In the end though as long as the song means something to the pair of you then that's all that actually matters

It's a song that holds special memories for you two so sod everyone else. GO FOR IT!!

We didn't want overly soppy or gushy either so are going with Head Over Feet by Alanis Morrissette.

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

I think if it means something to you both then go for it and who cares what the MIL thinks.

I think its the tune and the way it makes people feel that are important for first dances, the lyrics are secondary. Its a romantic slow tune, about love, how more appropriate can you get?

Tell your MIL she's a wrong un

Ive decided to go with lonestar amazed, the lyrics are beautifull and will probably be easier to dance to. I havent forgotten Robbie though, Im going to walk down the aisle to him instead lol
