Default Gift List

Hiya all

I was just wondering if anybody would be able to help me out?

I am getting married abroad. When we get home we are having a evening wedding reception. My other half seems to think it's acceptable to include a gift list with the invitations - i think differently!

Has anybody else been in this situation and if so what did you do???

I think it would be appropriate. Maybe people who are unable to attend your wedding abroad will want to buy you a wedding gift.

I find wedding lists a weird thing anyway. We are having a John Lewis list, but making it clear in our invitations that buying a gift isn't obligatory, and neither is sticking to the list.

If you do this then people won't feel obliged to buy you a pressie, but it helps those who do want to, to know what to get.

Jamaica! Wow! Lucky you! Are your family going out too, or just you and H2B??

Im getting married abroad too and also having an evening reception 2 months after we get back. We arent having a gift list as we have been living together for 6 years and have everything we could possibly need for out hme so we are asking for cash gifts or vouchers instead.

I dont think its a problem about putting the gift list in with the invite. Id have done the same thing if we didnt have everything already.

My brother and his wife put the cards John lewis gave them in with their invites, but they didn't write anything into the wording of the invites about it.

we are going to put our wedding list thighy in our invites too, i felt a bit cheeky doing it too, but all the other weddings we have been to have done exactley the same!
were just going to ask for either cash gifts, or some argos or b&q vouchers!! (obviously if people want to buy us things!)

I don't think its thought of as cheeky these days, its probably only the "older generation" that may see it as "not the done thing"

Dunno, feels a bit cheeky to me, which is why I am including a 'get-out' clause!!!

I don't think it's cheeky at all.......I think most people expect it these days....

We had our list with John Lewis and used their cards which actually say 'if you would like to buy a gift' therefore the choice is then the guests!!!

I don't think it is cheeky to put the list in with the invitations, it seems to be the "done" thing these days. I would just word it so that people don't feel obliged to buy something from it.

Mmmm, agree if setting up home. We have been together 12 years, and are onto our 2nd house, and have everything we need. I suppose its different if you are setting up home together.

Hi

Thanks for all you replies!

Gift List it is then! I think i may do the get out clause also!!!!!

Yes we are getting married in Jamaica as my h2b wanted to escape the whole church thing! We are quite lucky as both sets of our parents are coming as well as four of our best friends and their partners! It wouldn't have felt the same without them there!!!!!
