Default Wedding Abroad - Save the Date

Hi everyone, my first post and I am already picking your brains!!! We are getting married in Rhodes,Greece in May 2008. Everywhere online has lots of info regarding timings for sending save the date sand invites in this country, but I wasn't sure how much extra time to give people, as obviously, people may be booking their hols away up more than a year in advance!! Any tips on when to send without appearing to be the completely eager beaver I am wanting to send them out now!!!!!!!

Many thanks

First off to Groovy!!

I think if you send them too soon, people may forget, but youre right in that people want to book hols etc.

If it were me, Id probably leave it until January/February of next year to send them.

Most holidays for when you are getting married cant be booked until next year.

So, come on, tell all about you and your husband to be and your weddng plans!

x

Thanks for the swift replies!!!! As for plans, well, after 4 years together, my husband to be (!!!) thunked down on both knees on a beach in Rhodes at sunset and asked me to marry him. Cue much jumping around!! We got back from Greece 3 weeks ago and have already booked venue and date of St Nicholas Chapel in Lindos, Rhodes for 12 May 2008 (date so far away mainly cos I'm a right chubster at the moment and want to shed a few stone and also to save as we don't want to start off in debt!)

We are having 25 people hopefully (He has 5 brothers and sisters, all married, all with kids - only 7 people on my side coming!) and that is about as far as we have got!!!! I am in that excitable stage of being 'wow! awhole new world has opened up to me and I can look at tiara's! Enjoying every second of turning into a bridezilla and looking forward to reading these boards for more tips in the future!!!

Hello and to Groovy. I agree with early next year too. Or maybe even send them out with your Christmas cards this year.

to Groovy

I would suggest save the date cards to be sent with your Christmas cards? May isn't a particularly popular month for holiday bookings?

Nice to have a new face on Groovy

Welcome to Groovy. Always nice to see a new face.

I got married abroad 6 weeks ago and w took no family with us. If we had have taken family with us i would have done it a year in advance so that people didnt book other holidays.

Best of luck with all your planning and look forward to hearing all about it.

For a wedding abroad i'd definitely get save the date cards out as soon as possible - we sent save the dates out about 9 months in advance and that's for a wedding in the UK!! (due to impatience on my part and nothing to do with necessity though
