Have you found the dress that you would like to order in a shop you can physically visit? If so, then go there pretending you are interested in it and get them to measure you for it and write down details of what size you would need and price etc on a bit of card and tell them you need to go away and think about it. Then when you order it on line you should know what size you are. This is what I did, but it actually backfired on me because the dress maker I took it to for alterations thinks they actually measured me for a whole size too big to make money on alterations. But if you can do this a 2 shops perhaps then it shouldn't be a problem.
I actually got the phone number off the website and phoned them in America. It felt reassuring actually talking to someone on the phone, and they took me through everything - it was great. Make sure you order in advance, I ordered 7 months in advance I think but had problems as one dress failed the inspection before they shipped it, the second one got destroyed in the Tsunami, and then the third and final dress got shipped out. But it still arrived in time and I was chuffed to bits with it.
I won't deny that it is a worry ordering on the internet, but for all the money I saved it was worth it and I was able to have my dream dress. People have problems in actual shops too with delays etc so don't let that put you off. It's a long time since I have looked on internet sites for dresses, but what I would recommend is see if anyone has recommended this site on chat rooms, websites or in magasines and that should put your mind at ease.
Good luck with ordering your dress, it's so exciting. And sorry if I have rambled too much.
