Unhappy Harrumph

I rang my venue yesterday to try and arrange a meeting with the organiser.

She was a bit rude to me really. She couldn't possibly spare 15 minutes this weekend to see us. Even though we are driving all the way from London to Yorkshire to organise stuff.

And when I said I had a few questions such as how big a band we could fit in, she got a bit stroppy and said she thought we had opted for the disco that they recommend. We haven't even formally booked the disco yet as we are still trying to find a band.

I know that these places have weddings on almost every weekend, but you'd think she would make some effort to make us feel a bit special considering the amount of money we are going to make them.

Humph. I am a bit disappointed especially as I have been getting really excited about everything recently.

I hate the way it can really deflate you when people aren't as excited as you are about your wedding! Put her in her place, and hopefully she's more helpful in the future - it would be a nightmare if you had that to contend with (families can be bad enough) in organising your big day...

You know, I have had this problem with our Hotel since day one (that is, the day they took our deposit!).

I have sent goodness knows how many emails with questions - none replied to, even really important stuff which is for their benefit!

We have just had to go ahead and arrange our own stuff which means they have actually lost out on quite a bit ie; Hairdresser, Beauty Therapist, Guest Rooms, Pre-paid bar etc!

I went there and asked for some brochures to send people to encourage them to stay there rather than surrounding Hotels when attending our wedding. The receptionist was so ***** that she looked at me like dirt and told me that she couldn't possible let me have more than a couple because they are expensive!! I was LIVID!

It is so disheartening...

Aww thats rotten! I would turn up and demand to be seen anyway! Our hotel has been fine...we've paid the deposit and I have rung them a couple of times with questions which they were happy to answer. I had heard that my hotel weren't too hot on service but it seems okay so far, we'll see how they are on the day!

K. What a nightmare! At least you have managed to get things sorted yourself.

I am wishing I hadn't sung the praises of the venue in here and on my website. We have even got the gazebo at the venue printed onto our invitations!

They better start making an effort or I am going to get stroppy. And that wouldn't be a petty sight!.

Hi Embles - sorry to hear of your venue problems - huge word of warning though........if this is how they are treating you now, can you trust them to host your wedding? My venue was fantastic with me, answered all my mails, let me take people up to see the place, everything...........until I asked for confirmation that they wouldn't increase their room rates (already increased by 35% since booking), asked about having a choice of food on the menu and about wine tasting. They said they allowed either beef or chicken (a choice ruins the ambience) and they couldn't confirm a price freeze "as they were getting so popular it was impossible"!! Icing on the cake was when they said they do not allow corkage (guest was going to supply wine as gift) and that we would need to buy wine from there, we asked when we could taste it, they gave us a date of an upcoming wedding fayre which we couldn't go to as we were away that weekend and said if we couldn't make that we couldn't taste the wine.............their cheapest bottle was £20!!!! Outcome??? WE CANCELLED THE WEDDING AND MOVED THE VENUE AND THE DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was only at the end of February this year and I'm getting married in July (originally was 27th) so it was a huge thing for me to do, but I felt after this attitude change that I would choke if I had to sit there and smile and be around these pretentious people on my special day. I know it may be a bit drastic for some people, but all I'm saying is don't take any crap - there are a million venues out there who would jump at the chance to provide a great service - our new venue is completely out of this world! Good luck (and sorry for going on so long!!!)
