I know some of you have had an awful time shopping, and others have had better experiences. This isn\'t a commercial site so I have no problems what so ever with advertising!! Let us know the names of the stores that treated you well and the ones that treated you badly - we\'d like the names and a rough idea of where they are. Hopefully we may eventually be able to provide a list of bigger bride friendly stores. :)
Clay - I\'ve gotten used to the fact that if I should be so bold as to be a different size from others then I have to pay through the nose for the priveledge of clothing. Makes me so bloody MAD!!!
I\'m getting mine from a Place called New Image in Cleveleys near Blackpool in Lancashire. Very helpful, loads of advice excellent attitudes.
The one fault with the place was that they didn\'t have any larger sized dresses ready made up to try on had to hold mine up.
I tried on 9(!!!) dresses in my size or bigger (size 18 upwards) at House of Juvon in Brighouse,West Yorkshire. That wasn\'t all they had in bigger sizes, but what I wanted to try on (or the very helpful shop assistant thought might suit me). A new shop called Heavenly Reflections in Milnsbridge, Huddersfield was also very helpful , even if they didn\'t have a big range of bigger sizes. The owner was very pleasant, and knew how to pin them etc, so I got a sense of what they would look like. KarenE
I\'m getting mine from Sugar and Spice in Chermside, Brisbane, QLD. Not the biggest selection of dresses in the world, but plenty of bigger sizes, and excellent advice - they did not try and make me fit into a frumpy dress. YAY!
I am getting my dress from Go Bridal in Tunbridge Wells in Kent. I am a size 16, but I know they do lots of bigger dress samples in there, and the woman who helped me was fantastic! I have also seen someone else say they loved this shop on confetti and she was a size 22.
Im getting mine from Scottish Brides, Carnoustie, Angus. I have to say the first time i went, i was not too happy with the service, but i did see a dress that i loved, i went to a few others, all of which were really nice, but in the end i came back. I didnt get the same staff the second time and they were both really lovely, couldnt fault them
Emma Roy in Edinburgh were brilliant! I didn\'t even want to go looking for a wedding dress yet (was scared of looking like a barrage balloon heading up the Forth) but was dragged along by my bridesmaids on the pretext of looking for BM dresses. The nice lady (Kay) was really supportive and helped me pick some fabuous dresses and I looked amazing (wonder if they have some type if digitally enhanced mirrors or something!). Pronuptia Edinburgh weren\'t nearly as helpful. Still have loads of dress shops to try so will keep you updated.
it is bizarre isnt it that they only ever have sample dresses in a size 12 or below when very few people are actually that size. Do they think that bigger girls dont get married or something?
My shop had to order in the sample dress for me to try on as they didnt have it in the shop. It was an 8 - how funny did i look in the shop?!
The staff were wonderful though. Grace and Lace in Colchester, Essex. So helpful and friendly and were flattering about my shape without patronising me. I would definitely recommend them.
