Here is the dress that im thinking of getting either from debenhams or made. the train comes off for night time and is just a strapless straight dress.

I think I split the difference and went for a combination of "needs..." & "lovely"... I like the dress, but if it was me wearing it (which it's not, so feel free to ignore) I'd prefer it to cover my toes a bit more (i.e. Have a longer skirty-bit), and maybe be a bit fuller fabric-wise in the skirt - but that's mainly cos dead-straight dresses look a bit crap on me - think potato sack tied in the middle... But it's very glam, and certainly not forgettable!

Stace,
I've allways loved that dress it is Audrey Hepburn in the movie Sabrina a classic. Is yours ivory and Black like in the movie?
the lenght of the dress was about the style of the times...(1954)
My dress is the SAME style without all the black embroidery.
so needless to say I love it!

I think it is lovely Stace, and really like the idea of a removable train!

i know what you mean about the style, i think a bit longer too and not as tight, but you get the general idea.

not sure about the black maybe just embroydered in ivory too?
if i get this style i would be getting it made, so its up to me really.

anyone know who made it?

Stace

Y'know I reckon the embroidery would look good in black or a dark colour - maybe dark gold. Because it really makes it individual and it goes with the style of the dress.

Good luck with it.

I absolutely love that dress .... the reason being it is like MY wedding dress, only I have diamante straps. The train is detachable and it is absolutely gorgeous!

PS My dress is Ashley (Maggie Sottero 2001) so you won't be able to find it on her web site and I still haven't got to grips with my scanner so can't show you!

Stace
the original in your photo was designed by Hubert de Givenchy in 1954 for the film Sabrina.
I've seen a similar dress by Reem Acra bur I'm not sure what the style number is...but it came out in 2001.

v. similar but it is strapless much like the one you have from "sabrina" in the mag they say all the detail is black caviar beads can you imagine all that work???!

Reem Acra is one of my favorite designers for wedding dresses. I tried on a couple that were great and they fit really well. This is what mine is based on I wish I could find a pic...

Hi Stace,

I think it is a beautiful dress, but I would go for floor length. I've seen pictures of real life brides with black embroidery and gold similar to that in your picture, and both looked stunning. I remember the article with the girl who had the black embroidery, she said that it was great not to have to shop for white shoes as she could wear some strappy black ones she had already! Not a bad thought. The gold looked stunning too, not me (i look hideous in gold!) but suited this girl and her wedding to a t.

Do it!
