I just realised that I never actually posted a report about our wedding day on 11th April! So here goes.....
I didn't think we were going to get to New York! The week before we were due to leave my 6yr old was admitted to hospital - he was treated with IV fluids and had bloods taken to test for juvenile Arthritis.
We were due to fly out on the following Monday - I awoke in the early hours of Saturday morning with the most horrendous virus! I won't go into details but it was bad! I spent all day Saturday in bed and only got out of bed on Sunday evening to pack! I dosed myself with meds so I could travel comfortably! I was very tired but nothing could stop me getting on that flight!
My brother arrived at 6.30am on the Monday to take us to Edinburgh airport and we got there in plenty of time for our connecting flight to Heathrow.
As we were boarding the New York flight we got stopped at the check in desk - to be handed two upgraded seats for our flight! Thanks BA!
The journey was lovely and I still couldn't believe we had finally made it to New York as we had a lot of hurdles to get over in the preceding 2 years, it just seemed like someone else's dream!
On the Tuesday we had to go to apply for, and collect, our marriage licence. It felt a bit scarey to be getting the licence a day before the marriage and I kept thinking of it all going wrong at that point! It didn't though and we got our licence issued at 10.53am which meant we were all set for our 11am wedding the next day! (theres a 24hr waiting period before you can marry)
The jet lag meant we were awake at silly o'clock on the big day. The other half went out and got us breakfast which we ate in bed watching tv.
Everyone was meeting at our hotel for the limo ride to the borough office. My daughter was arriving early to do my hair. She called to tell me her tongs wouldn't work here (wrong voltage!) so the other half popped out at 8am to get some - oh the joys of being able to buy anything at anytime!
Panic over we both got showered etc and my daughter arrived to do my hair and help me dress.
I felt like a million dollars in my dress and I think I spent the whole day grinning! As we got into the foyer of the hotel where our guests were already waiting we got a round of applause! Strangers came up and spoke to us and wished us well which I thought was lovely.
We then had a short ride to the office, and a very short, but very sweet ceremony later, we were man and wife!
It was then on to Brooklyn where we had our photos taken. We then had a lovely ride back to Manhattan , enjoying the views and the limo's bar!
It was fantastic pulling up at the front entrance of the Empire State Building -everyone was craning their necks to see if it was some movie star getting out! It was only us, but I tell you, we felt like stars! Everyone stood taking photos and clapping!
Lunch was lovely and we decided we would take a trip to the top of the Empire State Building afterwards.
As we approached the entrance we were taken to one side by some security staff and the next thing I knew we were being told that as it was our wedding day we would be taken personally to the top and it was free of charge - a gift from New York City! No queues to wait in and another round of applause as we passed those waiting in line! I really did feel so special.
At the top we wandered around admiring the views, we got stopped and spoken to several times by other people and congratulated again and again. The warmth and kindness shown to us is something I will never forget.
It was a magical day which I'll never forget!

Married life is wonderful and my new husband spoils me rotten - that's not new, he's done that for the last 2 years! I still can't believe it's actually happened some days. We edited the dvd that one of our guests took with our camcorder and chose some music and Mr L did a fantastic job of the editing! If I ever get around to uploading any of it to my blog I'll post a link.

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.
