Where is the best place for dresses, a big chain or smaller shop. For both prices and service........ Any advice, my best friend is getting married and we are hunting for dresses.

I only looked in one aswell!! I bought the first one that i tried on. I seen it, thought it was beautiful but didnt think it would suit me. It did. The only thing wrong with it was it was too puffy on the bottom. I tried on a few others but went back to the first. I bought it and had loads of alterations done. I had nearly 3 foo off the train, and loads of underskirting taken out and figured in more. All had to be done by hand as it has a lace overlay on it.
I found that smaller shops had more choice, and better service.
However, as you're in Manchester, you'll have to try Virgin brides just for the fun of it!
Not sure where you are in Manchester but i did find the ladies in Pronuptia Altrincham very helpfula nd ready to let me try every dress in the shop. They also have a really good size collection. However the same compnaies shop in Manchester city centre was dreadful even though I had an appointment booked.
I couldn't find a dress I liked. I just went to virtually all the shops in the local area to have a look at styles and try styles on even if I didn't really like them. This was so that I would know what I definitely liked and didn't like on - because they look so different on the hanger.
I would also suggest to your friend having a good look around in the shops and then seeing if she can get it cheaper on line? That's what I did in the end. And because I couldn't find the exact dress I wanted I ended up getting the back altered to a lace up and that made it just perfect then.
I found the dress i had fell in love with in a shop near me , it was a maggie sottero, which cost a small fortune, but i loved it that much i was going to go for it, but then one of the girls on here gave me the link to a shop on the bay of e which does dresses allmost exatley the same at a fraction of the price.
It was called 'cinderellas bridal shop' and thats all i can rememebr, but it was fantastic, an even more fantastic price, and very good service too.
When i had ordered it i just popped along to a local bridal shop and arranged to have it altered there.

Completely agree. I got my BM dresses from the one in Manchester city centre and they were not helpful at all. I only got them there as they were the only ones my bm's agreed on!
