Default wine on the tables !!! please help!!!.............

hiya all,

i need your help please!! :( .........

right.. here goes....

H2b and i had our wine list through from the reception venue yesterday (we have to have the wine from them cause of the licence or something!!!! :o ) anyway my mum and simons mum both think that we should put about 2 or 3 bottles of wine on each table for people to have with there food, this is aswell as having champers for the toast and bucks fizz when everyone arrives.

Well simon opinion is that why should we put wine on the tables for people when not everyone drinks wine and it means that those who dont drink it will have to buy there own pints etc at the bar while those who do drink wine can get pissed at our expense!!!!!!!!

i really dont know what to do as its just causing arguements,my mum&mil2b saying well surely when your spending £11,000+ on a wedding £400 on wine isnt gonna make much of a difference!! and you dont want people thinking your being tight!!!!!!!!! (TIGHT how can people say were TIGHT when were forking out £3500 on there food alone!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad: )

but simon and i had a chat earlier and ive said to him for the sake of £400 if its going to stop arguements i would rather just give into them and have the bloody wine! :o HELP .......

do i give in and have the wine or not and is anyone else having wine on the tables??????? (by the way theres 150 people coming to the day so it means alot of wine!!!!!)

Cheers Girls and Jonathon for your help

luv
claire

Hi Claire,

This was our first \"slight disagreement\" to do with the wedding! At first, my view was \"why the hell should we supply wine\" and spoke to a couple of people at work who will be coming and they said they would not expect wine and would be quite happy to buy their own drinks.

However, Karen feels we should supply some wine and I\'ve come round to it now. My Best Man reckoned we should as well (not that its got anything to do with him! He used the same argument of us not wanting to overhear snide comments from guests, who cares!). Anyway, we will put wine on the table but not masses, maybe 2 or 3 bottles a table, like you suggested. However, we\'ll be able to take our own wine although we\'ll have to pay £5 per bottle corkage (where do these hotels get off:?:).

Have you pressed your hotel on the subject of corkage instead of having to buy the wine from them? That sounds like b*****ks to me, and you\'ve quite a few guests. Maybe try the hard approach with them, \"We\'re spending thousands here, cut a bit of slack please\" etc.

HTH

We\'ll be supplying wine on all the tables. I just thought it was the right thing to do, especially as we won\'t be having an open bar for the evening. Not sure how much, but probably about the same as you mentioned. Obviously it works out a little cheaper for us as we\'re only having about 40 guests. :(

We\'re putting wine on the tables, so to speak - we\'re having silver service - so everyones glasses will just be continuously topped up.

We also decided to pay for an open bar - however are just going to be serving wine and beer, no spirits as that would get a too expensive. My mum wouldn\'t have let there be a pay bar, maybe this is quite a jewish thing?

I think the \"package\" we\'re having includes wine with the meal, so we\'ll be doing it!

We\'ve got a drinks package in with the food cost which means that there is unlimited wine, lager, soft drinks and basic spirits bar until 10pm (Wedding taking place at 5pm).
There is also a Pimms Cocktail available after the ceremony whilst photos are being done.

Mind you - it sounds good but at £92 per head I should think so! Hence we are only having 70 guests.

We are definitely providing wine on the tables, hoping to get mates rates from brother in law who works for Hardys Wines, so even with corkage it still works out cheaper.

however I understand your dilema as I only have half the number of guests that you do.

If you can/want to provide something I know your guests will really appreciate it, but put a limit on it, say when its gone its gone!
