Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had the worst day ever yesterday!!!
My youngest bridesmaid came down from Yorkshire yesterday (I'm in Hertfordshire) for her first fitting, she is 11 or 12, not 100% sure, but she got the dress on, and the woman in the shop called out 'When was she measured up and who did it?' I had to think about it, but it was in January and the woman who measured her is no longer working at the shop, when the kid came out of the changing room I didn't know whether to cry or scream and shout! The dress doesn't even do up! The woman who measure her measured her wrong and the dress need's letting out by 3inches or more and there is no where they can get 3inches of material to do this! The dress was made to measure and there is nothing much they can do, they are seeing if they can put side panels in to allow for the lack of seam material, but I really don't think they will be able to do this.
Am I right to not want to pay for the alterations? it is their mistake, and they should hold their hands up and say it is so, but I don't think they will.
heeeeellpppp!!! I have about 11 to 10 weeks to go and don't need this now!!!!!
Fran

Hi Fran.
Sorry you are having problems.
I really think that because it was their mistake, they should pay for it - regardless of whether the assistant still works there or not.
Stand your ground on this one!

I say stand your ground too. Its not like you measured her yourself and got it wrong - they did and they are supposed to be professionals, the very people we have to trust!
I hope they can sort this out for you - let us know how they get on with side panels. If that doesnt woek, I'd ask them what they inted to do about the problem as it is the shops fault.
Good luck

Bugger. I agree, stand your ground. As far as the panels are concerned I had to have them added to my wedding dress, the same reason basically, and they look fine so it can be done.

Hi Fran
totally agree with the others on this one! Definitely do not pay for the alterations.
I am also in Hertfordshire, if you want the alterations done by someone outside of the shop and the shop to pay I have found the most amazing dressmaker who I am sure will be more than happy to help. If you need her name and number give me a shout..........
Which reminds me I must take a pic of my dress this evening to post on here!

At the risk of sounding stupid, if the dress was made to measure and it was done wrong, then they have 10 weeks to make another one. Why should you be worrying about alterations. If the dress fits that badly they should be rushing through making another one so you get exactly what you ordered. I would not take this at all. It completely defeats the object of having something made to measure if you are having to have panels etc put in.
The shop mucjed up the shop sorts it out.

Hi Fran,
Has the shop called you yet, seeing as they didn't yesterday?!
Hope they have and are going to make you another dress/pay for alterations.

Never got a phone call, so went in today with my mum and the woman who does the alterations said that she is going to speak to the manufacturers as soon as possible and ask them to send her some material to make another bodice and not put a zip in until the last minute to allow for Sally to grow some more.
She appologised for not phoning me and said that she wasn't aware that she was supposed to and that hopefully within the next couple of weeks she'll know for sure what can be done.
So a result sort of!
Fran

Wow - Result!
At least you know that she can get the manufacturers to send some more material. Otherwise things could have got a bit sticky!

The shop even offered to keep the dress and sell it on, and I could order another dress, but then my BM's wouldn't match up, but they offered anyway, wonder if it had anything to do with the fact they cocked up?
