if it was just for a wedding website then i would go for a free one, as weddings cost enough anyway. If it was something i could still benifit from afterwards then i would pay around £50
If I didn't have Mel, I probably would have stuck with a basic site from Geocities or whoever, as it is really very much an extra and not essential, although it probably doesn't save time as you have to put the site together rather than spending the time pulling paper information packs together...
Also, I like the fact that I did it myself (in part), and now know more about HTML etc
But, if I've spent £x on some really daft things, a website which is yours for a year and on which you can put photos for friends to download, then that would be ace for £50 - so I guess it would need to be quite basic, with a photogallery and instructions for uploading pictures, which is an awful lot to ask for £50 given the number of hours involved.
I wonder if there is a market for them above non-computer/ internet literate brides who would be put off doing it themselves - magazine readers for example!
It's a time poor cash rich thing I think!
(good luck if you go for it!)

No offence but I think the freebee ones are totally lacking in any style whatsoever. They are useful for details but probably no more so than the info sheet in the invites. We did some research on this - H2B is STILL saying he will do us a website, and we liked bigdayweb.com best for ideas on what to include. I think the owners are just a recently married couple but their mailout look really professional - they make out they are a big company - and they were advertised in one of the problem pages in a wedding mag - god knows how you wangle that.
Considering how much money people spend on weddings, and the fact wedding coordinators obviously make an income I would say there is a market out there, but that it probably needs to be built and people making their own freebee sites will help this. There will always be people out there would want something that looks really good and therefore reflects well on them and their wedding.

Nothing, I am sad IT geek and so know how little work actually goes into these things. If a real professional look is required then go to a bargain book store and buy a book and teach yourself. It really is easy - even my mum could do it. If I was to want one I would obviously do it myself for free.
I made our own by buying our own domain name, I dont like the freebie ones, an for 2 yrs it cost us £26 for a co.uk name.
I worked as a web designer for a while and i think its disgusting what some people charge! I agree buy a good book, use a program like Frontpage 2000 which is great for beginners and buy Frontpage for Dummies. Its way more fun!

As I am a web developer i have to say free cause i'll be doing it myself if i ever get round to it
but i do think some of the freebe sites like the knot ect are very good for a basic one

and baby makes 3 our family is complete i couldn't ask for more.
It wasn't too complicated and it didn't take to long. It just lets everyone know a little but about us etc. If you want to view further details the password is 'brideandgroom'.
I'm going to have lots of things to remind me of my day and paying out for a web site could be money spent on something more memorable.
Happy planning

I voted for nothing because I used to be a web designer, so I wouldn't pay anyone else to do that kind of thing for me!! Mine is not so hot, because I have lots of other sites on the go and haven't got any time to spend on it.
For people who don't know how to program their own web page, there are so many free sites available now, that I would say go for geocities or the knot. They seem to offer a really good service, although I have not used it myself.
id say same as cath if your totally illiterate like me then the knot is fab. the others freeserve took a lot longer to load in pics etc and i got bored. like niddy and looby lou says if you dont know how then get a book my dad and brother are comp geeks and my brother laughed at me and said figure it out yourself. oh well the knot will have to do
