Default First fitting

Phoned Pronuptia yesterday as I hadn't heard anything from them about my fittings and so glad I did, the girl I spoke to said 'we don't give out appointments untill about 8 weeks before'. I am 8 weeks this friday and have a feeling that if I hadn't phoned I wouldn't have heard anything from them as the girl didn't seem to know who I was when I asked when my apointment was. Upshot of this she booked me in for this Monday coming.

For some reason I can't seem to get excited about going for it though, due to work and things my Mum can't come with me and my B/M lives in Aberdeen so she is out as well, is it normal to want to have someone go with you even for a first fitting?
After a weekend of getting invites wrote out and nearly ready for sending and finally choosing our music for the registry office I just kinda feel flat about the whole thing, I love my H2B to bits and can't wait to be married to him but just not feeling really excited about the whole wedding bit just yet. Oh well can just hope I start to feel a bit better over the next few days!!!!

I agree, I wouldnt like to go on my own because I'd want someone elses oppinion, not just the biased sales woman.

Maybe take a camera and get her to take pics? that way you can look at yourself from a different perspective and your mum can see what its like!

Huggggs hope it goes well and I'm sure you'll look stunning

Hiya Wendy.

I can't help much on the dress fitting front - I ordered mine online, and it is being delivered straight to my house, so I am kind of missing out on the whole fitting excitement.

However, I just wanted to lend a bit of support re your comments about feeling a little flat about the whole wedding thing. I know how you're feeling, and went through a similar stage last week. Mine is in about 10 weeks, and I don't feel particularly excited either, although I can't wait to actually be married.

My theory is that all this planning and stress just takes it out of you a bit! I am sure that when the day itself comes around (and probably before!) we will both be dead excited!

Hope your dress fitting goes well - keep us posted!

Hi all,

If it's any consolation, I think that the majority of people go through this in the run up to the wedding.

In the beginning, there's the initial excitement of searching for all your suppliers, putting down deposits and discussing colour schemes. Then you pick your dress and all that goes with it which is very exciting. It all calms down for a little while and whilst the chat about weddings goes on, you feel a bit smug about having booked everything and being in control.

However, about 8-10 weeks beforehand, you feel that the excitement should be building up and it's not - in fact I just felt anxious and a bit strange to be honest - like I was on the outside looking in a bit.

Wendy, is there no-one you can take for a second opinion for your fitting. My CBM lived in Bedfordshire and couldn't be there for my first fitting, so a close workmate (who was blindingly honest) came with me to give her opinion.

I am sure that this is just a temporary lull and that in a few weeks time, it will all start feeling incredibly real and then you'll get into it - what with hen nights and final fittings and worst of all, final payments arghhhhhh!!!

Take care

Dawn

Hi!

I was really excited about mine and wish I hadn't been. It was quite disappointing really. I think I'd built it up to be something it wasn't. So maybe its a good thing you're not so excited.

I've also been through the same stage. You'll probably end be being the complete opposite soon. Then you'll start worrying, then you'll get nervous and excited and impatient etc. etc.

I have to say that planning a wedding is a huge emotional roller-coaster! You're perhaps just at one of the dips on it..

Thank you all for your replies, I feel a bit better now that I know I'm not the only one to go through a phase of feeling like this.
Unfortunetly as I don't work at the moment I don't have any close work mates who I could take with me for my fitting, I am studing from home at the moment so spend nearly all day by myself, and like my Mum the only other few people I would consider taking with me to the fitting all work and can't get time off. God that makes me sound like Wendy no mates!!!!! LOL!!!
Don't suppose any Glasgow groovies want to come along to lend some support ?????

Och well will just have to make the best of it and I'm sure that I will be feeling better when things start to get busy again.
