Default Goof-Ups--had any yet?

OK, we've a had pretty big screw up around here regarding the wedding, and although we keep laughing, it's a bit embarrassing--we left the time of the ceremony off the invitation! This thing was proof-read by at least 14 well-educated adults (8 of which were English majors in college)!

Everyone says not to worry, every wedding has a goof-up worth laughing over later. Have you had any yet? If so, what have they been?

Oh yeah, we solved the prob by putting the time on the map...it actually works out well as people will have the map in front of them when getting ready to go, but the invite will most likely be stuck to the fridge!

Even though we have lived in our current apartment for 6 months, Brett still spells the street name wrong. Our RSVP envelopes were all printed with the name spelt incorrectly! I kind of didn't think I would need to proof read them!!

So in the end we just did address labels and stuck them over the top, so all was OK. Apart from that, things are going ok.......

....am I tempting fate now????

Nothing quite like that but at my hen night as two girls were leaving my friend announced how excited she was going to be to see them at the wedding - unfortunately they're not invited to the wedding - oops!

We had a goof up with the bridesmaids dresses. We were told when we ordered them in November that they were made by a local dressmaker, and that she would order the material but not measure the kids until April. So when we rang them in April, the woman said we were too late, that the order would not go through!!! When we asked why, she said that they were manufactured, and they had already told other people they could not order them for weddings in September, as they would not get them in time! We kicked up a stink and they said they would try and order them urgently....surprise surprise they appeared about 3 weeks later!! I have a feeling they did not want the hassle of measuring 5 kids from 6yrs to 13yrs....but had to do something when we created a scene! Thank God we have them nw though, as they were the only dress I could find to suit both a 13 yr old and a 6 year old!

i think the funniest and worst story I heard was from my brother-in-laws sister. They wanted to do their wedding on a tight budget. A friend of theirs had made her a birthday cake, and they were so impressed with it that they asked her to do their wedding cake. She took round loads of piccies to show the friend exactly what she wanted and the colours she wanted, the friend said fine.

She went to pick up the cake a couple of days before the wedding and had the shock of her life......instead of the 3 tier heart shaped (it was the early 90s!) cake with pink flowers, she picked up a sqaure cake with yellow flowers! When she asked why the cake was like this the friend said 'well i didn't like the cake you described, so I designed a new one'

That's not it......half way through the reception, the head chef came to her and said she had better come and look at the cake....to her disbelief the cake had subsidence! The whole thing was collapsing!

She looks back on it now as being hilarious, but at the time it was devastating! The cake wasn't even cooked through!

Hmmm, where do I start......
Had to change best man because of his jealous girlfriend
Had to change band as they wouldn't respond to our calls
Had to change venue (and date of wedding) as original one wouldn't give us a guaranteed cost for rooms or let us taste a the wine we were having to buy from them (cheapest bottle being £15)
Completely wrong bridesmaids dresses ordered by the shop
My dress had a fault and had to go back to manufacturer
Shoes for BM I'd set my heart on didn't fit 2 of my BMs, had to get them a completely different shoe.......
Kicked up a stink about the colour of the ushers jackets, insisted they were black when they had them as blue then had to eat my words when I found out they were in fact dark blue
The original supplier of my stationery, favours, cameras etc had a nervous breakdown and went bankrupt - took ages to get my deposit back.
Had to change my cake design as this was created to match the original stationery.
Minister couldn't cope with change of date, had to get another one.
Booking forms from venue came through with Allison and Steven on them (H2B is called Billy)
H2B and I fell out at end of hen/stag nights and decided we weren't getting married after all

Apart from that, pretty much plain sailing........fingers crossed that will be the last of things turning to crap!

Alli, with all those things happening before the big day your luck is bound to change, and i'm sure your day will go with no, or maybe only very little hicups.

I'm not doing to badly, except that have just realiased that I have given out wrong directions to the reception venue. My directions read " shorly after driviing through Lee Brockhurst" when they should read " shortly after driving past the sign for lee Brockhurt" - I hope no ones leaves the main road and drives through lee Brockhurst as it's in completly the wrong direction. I am planning to resolve this by getting my ushers to give out new directions at the church. I have enclosed maps, so hopefully not too many people will get lost.

I also had to cancel original florsit as she didn't return my calls and although they had lovely flowers, they did not seem to have any idea about organisation.

Reception venue is also bit of a problem as hotel is saving half of it's 65 rooms for guests who want to go on a golfing weekend, they make more money out of this so are turing my guests down unless they want to book a few rounds of golf in addaition to the room.:

Any way. strill enjoying all the planning.

Donna
