Hi there,
I am getting anxious!!
The wedding is 2 weeks tomorrow and we have been let down by 2 Professionals in the last 4 days!
First a Photographer phoned us & said he (original one's colleague) would be doing the piccies instead of the guy we had booked as there had been a 'double booking'. He wanted to discuss where the hotel was, what it is like inside as he had never been there and how long we wanted him for on the phone, then just pitch up on the day! Paul suggested a meeting to go through everything properly (we haven't even had a proper one with the guy we originally booked) and this chap said there was no need and that it wasn't usual!! We haven't even seen this man's work so Paul insisted that he visited us next week!
Then, yesterday, my Harpist called me to say she had been offered some work for the BBC so wouldn't have time to do my wedding! She gave me the telephone number of a friend who is available on the day but I can't get through to her.
I feel really let down.
Has this happened to anyone else much? Is this a crafty trick - to get bookings on one persons merit then share the work out amongst colleagues nearer the time?
KarenP.
Can you not say that you had a contract with your harpist and that she is breaking the contract so you are entitled to compensation - Check your booking forms But that is so out of order!
Paul & I did discuss that but because they have offered 'Replacements' that they consider to be of the same caliber I don't think we have a leg to stand on.
I don't particularly want the original people doing the jobs anyway if they think that little of my big day.
Good for you demanding to see the new photographer's work, heavens only knows what he works like. Stick to your guns and and tell him exactly what sort of photo's you want, and have list eg: in church, just bride and groom, which family etc!
I think a quick call to your local CAB is in order to see where you stand, cos they are only offering replacements. I think you should be entitled to some compensation, especially for the stress it could cause!
At least you have the MGW gang to help and keep your spirits lifted!!

How dare they, 2 weeks before your wedding day, suddenly tell you they can't provide the services you have paid them for! They are both breaking their contracts as even if it is not in writing it is a spoken contract - its still binding. make sure you do call the CAB.
Do you know what, I'd be tempted to bloody well write to the BBC and tell them that your harpist cancelled so that she could be with them - at least then they will see what she is like! I'd be hopping mad! Who needs this kind of crap just before their big day? Make sure after the wedding you write to both people complaining about them, and then if you can, bring up the fact that as a gesture of good will they should be offering you some compensation.
I just feel so drained with it all...
Don't want to upset anyone in case we end up with NO Photographer and Harpist!
Maybe I should just see how it all goes etc then think about whether to do anything after the day?
Maybe these people will actually turn out to be really good!
