Question More URGENT menu help - what veggie options are you having?

My hotel have basically asked me to tell tham what I want (which is fab) but I've drawn a blank. I don't want something I normally have, like pasta, so wanted to know what you were all having so I could find something a little more special for myself seeing as it is my special day. So post 'em below!

I'm not sure yet what our veggie option for our main course is yet cause our hotel have yet to get back to us on that one.
But our Veggie option for 1st course is Carribean fruit cocktail soaked in Spiced Rum (the alcochol content should be a bonus for most of the veggies as they're all complete boozers. And my Bmaids ) Had to have a veggie option 'cause I fancied the chicken liver pate (yum yum)
Everyone gets the soup course cause it's Leek and Potato broth ( made with veg based stock, double checked that one out!)
As I said I'm not sure what the main course option is yet. Hopefully it'll will be something a bit more special than lentil bake!

Sorry I've not been any help with suggestions for main courses, but I'm stumped for them as well at the moment!

Hi Bev,

I don't have my menu options with me, so from memory...

Wild mushroom risotto with or without parmesan (without suits vegans, I think?)
Nut (or might have been mushroom) Wellington
Aubergine charlotte (grilled aubergine slices, lining a mould, and with a vegetable filling)

As a starter, how about plum tomato and mozarella salad with pesto dressing? Again, I would have thought that this would be suitable for vegetarians but not vegans...

I think there was also some sort of stew available as a main course, but that wouldn't feel quite right for the summer!

Take a peek at this URL: http://vegetarian.miningco.com/libra...ddingmenus.htm

It has loads of suggestions for vegetarian wedding menu's.

Good luck!

Here's our veg choices:

Vegetarian Starter:

Bavarois of Tomato with Vegetable Tampura

Veg. Main course:

Filo Tart of roasted Mediterranean Vegetables with Mozzarella cheese and a side salad

Rachael
ps I think a Bavarois is some sort of mousse thing but not too sure!

Bev,
have you gone for the goats cheese tart to start? with lamb as a main? so you don't want anything with pastry... do you want something that is complete on the plate or that needs the accompaniements that go with the meet? i.e. do you want risotto/ stroganoff type sloppy things or do you want something more sturdy and "fake meat" ish like a terrine or something?

Have a look on the BBC food website and the sainsburys web site as they both have brilliant recipe search engines where you can specify the ingredients you wan tand the course you want.

We're having something sloppy because it's part of a buffet so there's no point in having tarts etc.

Or could you go with a different starter and have some kind of cheese/ onion tart for the main.....

Hope we're not confusing you too much!

Good Luck!

hi Bev,

My h2b is vege, and so are loads of our friends so we've looked into it a bit........... thought our caterers vege main course menu might be of some help:

Baked aubergine stuffed with brown rissotto served on a trio of chinese vegetables

Field and forest mushroom stroganoff with a breaded crust

Roasted mediterranean vegetables with spicy cous cous

Red onion and blue cheese strudel with italien plum tomato and a gorgonzola cream sauce

Thai vegetable curry with basmalti rice

Beef tomato stuffed with a risotto of bell peppers and basil served with a herb butter sauce

Seared goats cheese wrapped in strands of courgette served with a tomato and pepper salsa

Wild mushroom rissotto with butter thyme and parsley

Spinach kubliac served with a vegetable paella

Leek and goats cheese tart with a fresh tomato sauce

Caramelised balsamic and red onion tart topped with a goats cheese crust

Herby cheese and vegetables with a spicy carrot salsa.

Hope these help
we are thinking of going with the leek and goats cheese tart, does anyone think any of the other choices sounds nicer though. Sorry not sure what a kubliac is

Good luck they'll love whatever you choose xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Don't know if this is worth adding but...

I know goats cheese is really trendy just now but I find it is an acquired taste and because it a love it or hate it thing, I would be wary of using it as part of a veggie option, esp as a veggie will only usually get one choice of dish.

Perhaps it is just me being too fussy though!

This is ours, kept it quite basic and the guests get to pick on the day off our own menu...

I know me and a lot of fellow veggies (though not all) don't like mushrooms. I hate going to a wedding and being given 'wild mushroom.....' We're going with veggie lasagne but I had a lovely camembert and cranberry tart once!

We are having melon to start which covers the vegies and meaties and are giving salad to the poor vegies.

I am afraid we haven't given it much thought and I just remember when I was vegie that I really hated all the bizzare vegie things you tend to get. I thought salad was preety safe and if we are lucky and get a summer day it is also a lighter option for people not wanting chicken.

I kind of feel mean now with all the effort everybody has gone to. But hay - salad will have to do.

Ours is a fish bbq. We have lots of veggies coming, but the majority each fish so that takes care of most people. However, we are also doing a veggie kebab, with lots of peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc roasted on the barbie. And for those who don't like fish there will be some chicken wings.

Oh my god, and all this time I've been thinking I'm the only veggie that doesn't like mushrooms..! Er, also hate peppers, but that's not that bad really, is it? My family are meanies and love to go "How can you be vegetarian and not like vegetables?" But I like most things, honest!
Generally I think it's nice to go for things that haven't been created to look like meat-substitute, and dishes that look nice on the plate are a bonus... I think something "structured" (hmm) like a tart is a nice idea, cos it looks like a lot of effort has gone into it. And you can make them out of virtually anything so should be something that can keep even the fussiest veggie happy.
Am I too late to be of any possible help?!

I wondered if I was the only veggie to hate mushrooms too! Glad to hear I am not alone.

Thankyou for all your help ladies. I think I've decided on a nut roast - I know, odd time of year for it but I LOVE it, and that way we can just have the veggies that the carnivores are having with their lamb, so people won't stick out too much. Just have to see what the hotel think now.
