Default My Mum is a STAR!

I called home last night just to say hi, and was chatting with mum about bits and bobs. I happened to mention that we were tightening the belts as the rest of the cash for the reception is due in March and she said \"But I\'m paying that!. I explained how much it is, and the fact that we know that she is going to make a contribution, but she insisted she is paying the lot!!! :o In the great scheme of weddings it\'s only the tip of the iceberg for some people\'s reception costs (£1400), but it\'s an awful lot of money for us, and to be honest as I haven\'t been able to get any work here I was really panicking as to where this was all going to come from. It turns out she has been saving for months and is paying for the flowers, DJ, hairdresser, make up artist and photographer! :o I went to bed and told Mark after I got off the phone and I just burst into tears, I couldn\'t believe it. I\'ve been worrying about this every day for weeks, and not enjoying my wedding planning at all (it had come to a stand still). This has changed everything.

The upshot of this is that after telling my father I was going to wear Doc Martens under my dress (he was not impressed!) Mark has suggested that to appease my Mum I should find some wedding shoes even if they cut my feet in two. and to be honest I\'m more than happy to. Anything to make my Mummy happy.

So here\'s the shoes I\'m looking at so far:

Or these ones, although the ones above are slightly lower and look more suited to a wider foot. If anyones tried any of these on and can confirm that for me I\'d be very grateful! I won\'t have the shoes for my dress fitting, but was thinking of gettin a cheap old pair of shoes from somewhere just for height. What do you think?

Mum\'s - and parents in general - can be great can\'t they?
I have heard that rainbow club shoes are the most comfy bridal shoes.
What about something more ballet pump ish if you don\'t want the heel. Think about the height as you do need to be upright in them for a while. Go shopping for similar everyday \"office\" type shoes (you can\'t avoid two-bit shoes for work) and see what kind of height you can bear.
Don\'t stress too much though!!
Tell us what you decide...

Default Aaaahhhhh!

*Sigh*

Aren\'t mum\'s fantastic?? How wondeful of your Mum to save up for all those months and make sure you got the wedding you deserve! What an angel :saint:

Are you her only daughter? I expect she has been saving a little bit here and there for ages in the hope of her baby getting married some day. It is so lovely, and it means you can stop worrying so much about money and concentrate on getting things booked and sorted!!

Come on girl, get a move on!! :tumble:

Love Jxx

Oh, and I think the first shoe looks more comfy than the second.

Roz - good idea on the shoes! Mark is getting the hump with me and window shopping (I just can\'t walk past one without looking in! ) but I\'m sure he won\'t mind me having a little look here and there. ;)

Jess - I am indeed the only daughter, and my brother is a bit of a black sheep (although my poor mother and father still go out of their way for him, GGGRRRRR!!! Git doesn\'t deserve them!!! ). I also think, from what my Dad has told me, that she is really quite sad that she hasn\'t been able to do the things like go dress shopping with me etc. So I shall be taking her to choose my shoes. :)

Hi bev

I\'m really pleased to hear your news - I know you\'ve been worried about the money for a while now.

Give your mum a hug from me when you see her next!

Thanks Mel, I\'ll be sure to pass on that hug - actually Mark bought his ticket the other day, and I changed the return date on mine so we will be arriving back in Blighty on Saturday May 4th. Bit of a nightmare though, 8 hours from Oz to Singapore, then 11hours kipping on the floor of the airport before we pick up out 13 hr flight. :o I only stopped over for an hour and a half last time!!

hi bev,

You\'ve probably got it all under control now - but if you do need any help with anything in the UK, drop me a line!

I reckon I owe you for making such a fun website and for re-sizing my pic!!

I am also thinking about going for the \'Zoe\' shoe (my dress has a split up the back, so cant really get away with DMs although would love to!!)

They look the most comfortable of all the wedding type shoes I have seen to date, and I dont think are that expensive (£30 me thinks) well....not as expensive as most other wedding shoes!
