Default toastmaster

Can anyone help me regarding duties of a toastmaster? One was provided with our reception, but H2B asked if one of his best friend's could do it instead. As he has gone along with (everyone else's) flow so far, it seems like a great idea, but we are not sure of the duties. Any help would be appreciated..

8 days to go, can't wait, spend a lot of time crying with soppiness whenever |I think about it!

Found this for you, basically tells you when the duties are needed (and do you want your friend to miss out because he's doing all this?)

On The Day
Arrives early at reception venue and checks that all is ready for the wedding party.
Receives and escorts Bride and Bridegroom on arrival.
Receives and directs guests.
Organises and arranges bridal receiving line, introducing guests by name.
Liases with still and video photographers to keep within pre-arranged times.
Checks with banqueting Managers/caterers that meal is ready.
Ensures guests are informed of their places at table and directs them to their places.
Announces the Grand entrance of the Bride & Bridegroom, parades and escorts them to their places at top table.
Says the Grace before the meal or introduces chosen guest to do so.
Informs staff that guests are ready to be served.
Announces and organises the ceremony of cutting the Wedding Cake.
Announces the principal proposers of the traditional toasts and ensures that any presents, gifts, bouquets etc. are 'to hand' at the right time and in the preferred order.
Acts upon any special requests of the Host and Hostess, Bride or
Bridegroom and formally closes the wedding breakfast to prepare for any subsequent festivities.

We get ours as part of the hotel package and i have decided to stick with that.

They do alot with the hotel staff - for example if the pictures are taking a bit long letting the kitchen know so the food doesn't get spoiled etc that I felt the job would just be done better by the hotels chosen person. They are also much better and used to getting people in line and just making sure the day goes more or less to plan. Or if it doesn't making sure nobody knows.

To be honest they do a great deal and I don't think it would be much fun for your friend. Plus if they don't do it properley it can have effects on the whole day.

The choice is yours - but is there not something else they could do. Or maybe they could just do some of the more noticed duties - like introducing the bride and groom and the speeches etc.

Good Luck whatever you decide and have a great day.

Hi all,

We had a toastmaster and he was BRILLIANT!

He cost us about £150.00 but was well worth it.

He turned up in an absolutely fantastic outfit (long red jacket), white gloves, the whole shebang and made sure our reception ran like clockwork.

As Lo said, he makes sure everyone is where they should be at the right time and saves you any potential hassles you might have.

Our guy was well worth every penny! (mind you he scared the beejesus out of a few people banging his gavel down every few minutes - tee hee!)

Our's is supplied with the wedding package at the hotel.

Otherwise we more than likely would have paid to have one, cause I think they are worth the money, and they are also a part of the wedding!

Our hotel organised the toast master. His name was John and he was fantastic!!! The photo's took a bit longer than expected so we were running about 20 minutes behind, but he gained these back somewhere during the wedding breakfast! What a chap and he helped my SIL with her 6 week old baby so she could eat her dineer! Love him!!

He stayed until midnight as he was having such a good time!!
