You've probably seen me lurking in here before, and I've finally plucked up the courage to come on and say - help!!
Our wedding date is 28 September 02, and I had my first dress fitting yesterday. It was traumatic. I've been carefully dieting and exercising lots this year and the upshot is that I've lost about 4 stone. 'Yay' I thought - but apparently not. The dress (embroidered bodice and skirt with chiffon drape over the top) hangs on me. I looked like a lampshade. They can re-order the skirt in a different size, hopefully, but the bodice is just going to have to be effectively taken apart and put back together by the dress altering people...
I know I've only got myself to blame (even though I look SO much better), and I really didn't know I was going to slim down this much (previously I've only ever managed to lose a few pounds), but now I keep wondering if they're actually going to be able to do it, or if it'll look awful, or if maybe I should just buy a bin-bag, paint it white, and save myself this stress...
You're all so wonderfully helpful and wise on these things, and I just wondered if anyone could provide reassurance/advice/chocolate???
congrats for losing all the weight im sure the dress can be fitted to your size. have some choc.
Welcome to Groovy, Hope you have fun and get your dress sorted.
Any hints and tips would be welcome in the Ab flab section

Phew that was hard work!!
My little baby yeah not so much now my little man is now almost 3 years old !! not a baby no more
My little ginger man speaks spanish!!
Thanks for the reassurance, and especially for the yummy chocolates! I guess I just really wanted to see what it looked like, and had somehow kidded myself they'd just do some nips and tucks and hey presto! Perfectly fitted dress. I'm so rational. I guess it didn't really help that every time one of the fitters said 'Wow! how did you lose it?', my mother (who had previously suggested I lose weight) shrieked 'She's anorexic!' (I'm really not) 'She's wasting away! I'm sure it's not normal!!' - and I never even got a chance to defend myself and my shrinking body. Considered attacking her with one of my lovely new high-heeled wedding shoes, but eventually decided I liked the shoes too much.
Will definitely share any tips on Ab Flab board - but generally just lots of salad, fruit, vegetables, fibre, fish, etc and much gym attendance!
I am sure your dress wil look stunning once the alterations have been made - and well done for loosing that weight! Wow, you did so well!
Do you have a picture of your dress we can see? We have a section called 'What are you wearing' and you can post a pic on there if you like along with all the rest of us
Congrats on your weight loss. You must have worked really hard!
I am sure that once the alterations have been done to your bodice, it will look wonderful. There is still plenty of time for them to finish it, and it will be worth the wait I am sure.
I so hope the dress will be okay! It's true that they have got plenty of time to fix it - they tried to persuade me to come in later for the fitting, but I knew this might be a problem.
I don't have a piccy, as the two bits are by different designers, I think - bodice by Veromia (design name Ferrari or something car-like??) and skirt by Essense (can't remember model name). But they look great!
And thanks for all your welcomes - I shall definitely stop lurking and post more often!
This the best message board ever - you'll love it! Mega well done on the weight loss. You should be so proud of yourself!
Mega embarassing moment. Tried on a dress a couple of weeks ago which was a real squeeze! When I bent over in it to put some shoes on the hook&eye snapped off! Luckily only Mum and I were in the changing room so we pretended it didn't happen! Then I tried another dress on in a different style and we noticed the clip had broken off that one as well! I was pleased to see it wasn't just me wrecking the dresses!
lol! Lots of similar things happened to me - but you'll be fine - and you've got plenty of time to lose weight, though you'll look wonderful whatever, as the day is so special. Good luck dress hunting!
First of all Congratulations on loosing all that weight, You must be so pleased. Secondly, to MGW and thirdly, youll look fab on the day and wonder what all the worry was about.
wow! Great, you must be so pleased, I am glad for you!
Come on don't worry too much for your dress, they should be able to do that, really for the price we put in our dresses... really, if it is for skills and art, then they should be able to prove it for you this time
And welcome to the Grooviest wedding site
