I would say on the whole the service was ok, I did meet some pretty rude people, but some of them were really lovely....just a pity none of those shops had anything i wanted.

im a size 16 (may not be welcome on this one but anyway!!):(
the shop which i bought my dress from had the most helpful people i could have imagined they were marvolous!!:saint::D
and trated me like a princess :saint: and had dresses in my size !
but as far as the other shops are concerned they only had dresses in sizes 8-12!!!!(considering over 1/2 the population is a size 16 + as per the m&s advert!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and they were squeezing me into all sorts of dresses( not very nice!) i felt very uncomfortable!
well thats my 2 pence worth
see ya

Need more attention..
To all the plus size brides out there...being a plus size DIVA is wonderful...being a plus size DIVA Bride is hard. I mean, when i walk into a bridal salon, i want attention...i want the same attention a "skinny-minnie" would get...When i am in a Bridal salon, I am always asked "are you a bridesmaid?"....AH NO!!
And the selection on Wedding gowns .... please there are more plus size DIVAS out there, then there are skinny-minnies...
The ONLY place i know that pays attention to your DIVAS needs is DAVIDS BRIDAL...an American Company, its too bad Canada doesn't have that company here...
thank you for listening

Hi Cari.
I agree - slowly but surely there are more shops springing up in the UK for the larger figure, but it's a slow process. However since being in Australia I can really appreciate how good we have it in the UK - there is no choice here at all! As far as bridal wear is concerned, I'd say it's the same here as in the UK from what I've heard - a bit hit and miss, you need to get lucky and find the right place. Easier said than done.
Have you chosen a dress yet Cari?

I'll probably get muffins thrown at me for this but...
I am a skinny minnie (size 8-10 US)as you call us, and in one shop I went into they had nothing to fit me. yes thats right 200 dresses and not one that did not have to be either pinned with gobs of fabric hanging off the back or too small with thoes elastic thingys holding me in. I tell you it is no worse to either one than the other. Can you imagine this beautiful dress you are trying on when the boobs are under your arms? I think not.lol!

So far so good at my shop!!!
The girl in the shop remembered me (totally shocked me!) Mind you it must be unique though for the bride to order an Emerald Green Bridesmaid dress for hers!!!
I'll keep you informed as to how it goes when I go for my fittings in about 3 months time!!

I was worried to death about trying on dresses but it really wasn't that bad.
First I went to Virgin Bride in London and then to Pronuptia at Hatton Garden.
The level of service was brilliant-the assistants were really understanding and not at all judgemental.
My only gripe was that most of the samples were sizes 10-14 so nearly everything had to be 'pinned' on to me which I found a bit demoralising!
The assistants actually agreed with me when I said about the UK population being size 16+ etc. They wish they had larger sample sizes too as it would make their job easier to do!

An amazement that some dresses fit!!!
Bev
Thank you for writing back...I have not choosen my dress yet, everyone I know, says that I should really purchase one next year like in January, or February...
On the other hand, I have tried on some dresses, and to my amazement, they fit; mind you the bust area, will have to be taken in...( I am volumptuous everywhere, expect the boobie area ). Actually the first dress I put on, I wanted to take home.
My sister spent 3 years in Wales, and said that you really had to shop around for DIVA wedding dresses...Just like you have to here in Canada...

I am reasonably happy with the service I got. The dresses were all size 10 - 12 which was a slight problem seeing as I am a 'normal' 16! Why do they only stock them in 10-12?? Not everyone is that size!! Other than that I have had a good service. Sometimes they don't seem to know their backsides from their boobies (me being polite!) but other than that fantastic!

I can't complain about the place I bought my dress. It's a small local shop run by a lovely, down-to-earth married couple, who took time to talk to me even without an appointment, and then were very nice when I was actually trying them on. I'd seen the dress I wanted in another shop, but the memory of how pleasant this couple were made me want to go back. And I was glad I did - the dress was £60 cheaper there!!! mg:
Yes, I had to be pinned in, and the sample I had was a size 16!! Bit demoralised until she told me that wedding dresses were always sized small.
Anyway, I made a joke about needing to lose a lot of weight, to which she countered "you may think that, but your body is totally in proportion". Good to know I've still got killer curves, size 16+ or not!!
Oh, and for a plug: Sarah-Jane Bridal, Larne, Northern Ireland.
Oh yes...Bev, I also tried on some dresses in Australia too - they were couture, so small sizes, but the woman in the shop could not have been more lovely & helpful, and BOY did she pin me in VERY securely!! WONDERFUL and the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen, almost put me off every single dress I saw when I got home!! If money & distance was no object: Simonelli, Lower Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe, Melbourne...*sigh*

I had an interesting experience in a shop in Jersey, when I asked what sizes their dresses went up to and the shop owner looked me up and down and said 'huh ... not your size' - I was mortified
The other shop I went into over there was fab, but I ended up going into Juvon Bridal in Brighouse and the staff couldn't have been more lovely - they really made me feel special and I've got the loveliest dress from there.

Why do some people feel they have the right to be downright rude to girls who are not 'stick insects'?
They wouldn't be so blunt and unkind to someone who wasn't quite 'the norm' because they had alopecia or a limb missing, so why do it to us?
Bloody Rude!!!

My bridal shop was fantastic, the girl who worked there was bigger than me, so could totally understand my reservations!
I still pop in there every now and again, and now Cupid has ordered her dress from there, and I'll be getting my CBM dress from there!
There is another shop in our area that keeps the door locked. You have to ring the bell just to go in and look around (which she doesn't like at all!) I went in their to get shoes for my brother's wedding, and she looked me up and down until I explained I was only in for shoes!! Who do these peopl think they are!
EVERY WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO GET MARRIED AND LOOK BEAUTIFUL ON THEIR BIG DAY!
Sorry, feel better now!!

I went to 3 bridal shops in manchester when I went dress hunting and the staff were nice in all of them.
The staff in the shop I got my dress from were the best. They found me my dream dress and insisted I looked gorgeous in it. I came out of the shop feeling really good about myself-which doesn't happen v.much!!
I had been dreading looking for dresses because of my size but my experience has een a good one
