Default Here is a suggestion!

This was suggested to us by our registrar when we went to book our wedding.

Jon and myself have lived together for years, have 3 kids and don't need anything in the way of gifts. So she suggested to us instead of asking our guest for gifts ask them to pay for their own meal for the wedding reception, which is an idea if you are on a tight budget and know your guests well!!
However we are asking for cash to put towards spending money for our honeymoon.

That's a good idea - in fact, both of them are good ideas. When you've lived together for yonks, a gift list seems odd.....

my cousin did that for her wedding a couple of years ago. I have to say it didnt go down too well with most of the guests. We were ok with it, but a lot of the family thought it was a bit rude to expect them to pay. They thought they should have paid for close family, but then again where do you draw the line..........

oh I dont know, like i said, we thought it was fine, after all they didnt need anything for the house etc

chris and i have also lived together for ages, have a son etc etc yada, yada, yada! so we're asking for gift vouchers for argos - we need a new sofa. i've put this on the extra info sheet under 'gifts' and made it jokey so nobody feels obliged. the sheet will only be going out to evening do guests as day do guests are only immediate family so they know what to get us.

We're also in the same boat. However what we don't have is a really nice dinner service and have both fallen in love with a Wedgwood one.

We were thinking of just asking people to buy something from the dinner service, be it a plate or teapot depending on their budget and then ask someone to co-ordinate what's been chosen.

It said in a wedding mag I was reading today that the new trend is to ask for vouchers, or for guests to contribute to a fund (wedding or honeymoon) since so many people live together. I like the idea of a honeymoon fund, I must say....

I think people are definately going for vouchers now-a-days, or a dinner service.

What can you do when you've lived together? Shawn and I don't want a wedding list with Debs or M&S because we've got everything we need so we're going for a wine list with Oddbins or something but this is only going to be for family to get we want everyone else to get us something unusual! (what's the chances of ending up with vouchers so we can get something ourselves?!)

And as for asking people to pay for their own meal at the wedding I think it's a great idea! People generally spend about £20 or even more on a pressie don't they? Though I can see why some people would get a bit peeved about it.

I think you have to word it really carefully and call it a contribution to a 'fund'!
