Default Dresses

Hi girls,

I\'m new to this site - saw the links over on Confetti - thanks Roz - and though I\'d check you out.

My frock is an Alfred Angelo number (1153W) and I\'ve had to order a size 22 - normally a 16/18 - but had to get the boobs in!!!!!!

Check it out at.. www.alfredangleo.com

Oooh, very nice!

I don\'t like mine anymore. *sigh* Been looking for a photographer all night (and morning - its 4.15am here now!) and I keep seeing lovely dresses with lovely thinwomen in them - not a double chin in sight. Do fat girls even get married? You\'d never think so would you?

There's some stuff in here about tattoos and covering up.

Hope it helps.

Um, I want to send a pic of my dress as an attachment to this message. I really hope it comes out as I have neverdone this before!

Bev-if it doesn't, could you tell me how to do it?

My dress looks a bit like this (being made, so no pic as yet), but with a plain ivory dress, with little straps, and either antique lace or lilac/blue tulle as the coat. What do people think?

I reckon that is a beautiful dress, I particularly like the coat part. Good choice, definitely!

Yea, I know what you mean about not being able to visualise the coloured coat! I found a lovely fabric in John Lewis which is very light lilac with silver embroidery. sounds wierd, looks lovely. It goes over the dress really well.
Will definatly post a pic when it's finished!

Hi Martha

I think you replied to my message on Confetti about ideas for bigger brides.

The coat looks great. I am having a winter wedding so am looking for something a bit warmer. I tried on a coat in devoure (dark crimson) and a bias cut dress with straps in velvet.

The coat is from Charles and Patricia Lester.

There is something similar on their web site (crap site i'm afraid)

http://www.charles-patricia-lester.c...of-kuwait.html

pic on the right. What a crazy web address! I also like their velvet wedding dress

http://www.charles-patricia-lester.c...-weddings.html but haven't tried to se if it suits.

Patricia is larger lady and all their designs seem to suit us larger ladies. The fabrics are all hand made by the designers.

H2B thinks I might look like Mystic Meg. I haven't got anyone nearby to go shopping with so it's hard to decide.

Let me know what you think. I'm getting married in a medieval castle in Wales in November so something dark and flowing is more appropriate I think.

Hi Nicola!

All I can say is WOW!!!

They are amazing! I love the coat! I personally think they are the way ahead for larger brides, and they are stunnng. The Velvet dress is gorgeous as well! Wow! would you have it in that colour? The colour is fabulous! The dress would go really well with a coat as well, and you would be all warm and snuggly!(and not at all like mystic meg!)

How much would something like that cost? Are they really pricey? If I had known about the site before I would probobly have changed my designer's spec!

Let me know if you get it (I will be really jealous!)

Hi Martha

I'm glad you like it.

Price ummm... that's the main problem with this and why I want to be really sure before I go ahead.

The dress should only cost about £200 if I get it made by someone I know in Brighton as its just velvet.

The wedding dress on the site is about £1,000 which I think is too much if I'm going to cover it up with a coat.

The coat costs £1,800 as the fabric is made specially for each comission. If anyone knows any shops with a good selection of devoure fabrics it would be easy to make something similar.

I haven't a clue how much wedding dresses cost as I haven't dared to enter one yet and the stuff I showed you is more 'me' (not only am I big, I look like a corpse in white/ivory colours).

Default To Sam2906

I love your dress Sam - is it Benjamin Roberts? I've been looking for one just like that as I'm a bit (lot!) on the big side and I thought it would be flattering.

It's a bit personal, but if you don't mind me asking what sort of size are you and is it as flattering as it looks like it will be? Apologies in advance if you do mind

Debbie,

Of course I don't mind I'm always happy to help a bride in need!! Yep the dress is Benjamin Rorbert (www.benjaminroberts.co.uk is where I got the piccy from) My top is a 16 and it's called Sage, the skirt is size18 and it's called Beth. It is soooo flattering it had me thinking I was skinny!!!! The arms on the top sit off the arm (there's a piece of elastic underneath) and that really slims my big arms down and a good basque will hold my gut in!! It's cut goes in at the waist which is really flattering and then the skirt is a rouched at the front to take the emphasis off my hips, and as for my big legs....well you just cant see them!!!!

I've bought my dress from a little bridal boutique near my home town but if you go to the web site it will tell you where the nearest stockist is.
