Just wondering... have heard that I may have to invite the vicar to my (our - oops! lol) wedding reception!

Is that true? My friend says that apparently that is the done thing and that they always get an invite???

Help!!! Pleeeease!

I believe it is common practice (and courtesy) to invite the vicar that performed your wedding to the reception, but unless he knows you very well, they rarely take up the offer!

Just tried to call my Dad (he's a vicar) to ask but he must be out healing the sick so I'll try him later. I'd say Nuisance's answer sounds about right. My Dad never takes up invites to receptions, but I'm sure a few do.

Janey,

Well, we were wrong!!!!

I called Daddie, and he said "the done thing" is to verbally invite the vicar to the reception, but then it is also generally the done thing for the vicar to decline! I think that is because they do a lot of weddings and would be too much to go to all the receptions, especially when they don't know anyone. Its just a politeness thing.

I guess the vicar may attend a reception if he/she is a family friend.

Hope this helps,
Jx

That is really interesting, I emailed my minister(is that the sam thing) and he said he would be delighted to party down with us all night!
which made me really happy because I had heard on alot of site that the minister usually says no. Dane is really cool and I hope he doesn't just pop in to make an appearance.
