Hi Jilly

http://www.weddingfavours4u.co.uk/ have got a few bits and pieces, some ideas that spring to mind are:-

Minature liquers (sorry about spelling!)
Lottery tickets
Scrolls with a poem, tied up with ribbon
Welsh love spoons
Seeds in little envelopes, i.e seeds for a flower that you have in your bouquet

That's all I can think of!
Good luck
Snowball
xx

I know you said other than chocs or sweets.... but since you're Scottish how about giving folks tablet as favours? I've only seen one company that does this online but at a very high price...

http://www.sweets-online.co.uk/range.html (about 3/4 of the way down the page). If you can get hold of some white heather sprigs then you could easily make these!

I'm still toying with the idea but since we're not making a huge deal out of my Scottishness at the wedding I think it would seem out of place.

How about Rock (as in seaside) with your names and the wedding date through it?

It is possible to get paper which is impregnated with seeds which you could cut up and use as place names... bit folky though isn't it?

I had a couple more ideas! You could give little pots of heather which they could plant out into the garden? Or little pots with any sort of bulb in them... you could leave the sort of bulb as a mystery to them and they'll just have to look after it until it flowers before they'll know! Having said that, this wouldn't be a good idea if lots of your guests are flying in as transporting it home would be a pain.

I've seen folks giving little bags of home-made cookies tied in organaza fabric as favours too. Posher ideas along this line would be having someone bake and ice biscuits with your guests names on them and then they could double up as place-names with a small bag of mini-cookies to take home as favours. Your only worry there would be greedy people eating all the place names!

We didnt want to give chocs or sweets either as most of the weddings we have been to, there have been loads left at the end of the night and we dont want to 'waste' money.

We are having minature bottles of whiskey for the men (Scottishy for my side) and the women are having scrolls whicj i think is a lvely keepsake. HTH

I thought H2B had a good idea even though it was really different!

We are putting together a CD of all of our favourite songs to be played during the reception and H2B thought he could then do a whole lot more and they could be handed out to the guests with the favour boxes of choccies (we are having a small wedding!!).

I liked the idea to start with but haven't really pursued it as I don't quite know how practical or financially viable it is.

We are just having the usual choccie boxes (Thornton's chocs) as I have searched high and low and cannot see anything different that I like. One thing I did think of doing was buying relatively stiff handmade paper and then making my own favour boxes as we'll only need about 40. I found a website where you could download a template for a box. I tried it and it was really easy to put together. The template made a pretty small box but I can just enlarge that on the photocopier.

Hoping to go to Makro after work to get them.
