Angry divorced parents at wedding

Does anyone else have divorced parents who are going to be at their wedding?

My family situation is soooooo complicated and H2B and I decided that we'd get round it by not having a 'traditional' top table - instead we'd have our sisters and partners, the best man and his wife and my CMB and her partner.

Spoke to my sister last night and told her the exciting (well, I think it is!) news.
She wants to sit with my dad and his wife.

Grrrrrrrr. This is going to do my head in. And there's still months and months to go! Why can't everyone just agree?

Mark's parents are divorced and both re-married, so we had 10 on the top table!!!

Imagine you are looking at the table as a guest, from left to right, this is how we had it set up:

Step dad; MIL; Best Man; My mum; Mark; ME!!!; My Bro; CBM; FIL; Step Mum

My brother gave me away so he got to sit on the top table too, and the receiving line was just me and Mark, coz otherwise it would have been 15 people long

Families, eh?

my folks are divorced too and i'm dreading it my dad has remarried and shown no interest in the wedding at all (he is not giving me away) but to overcome any akwardness and as there will only be 25at the day part of the wedding we are hopeing to have one large table with me and h2b in the middle and every one else can sit where they want

unless i sucumb to the pressure of writing some form of table plan

Hi Jellyhead,

My parents are divorced and both remarried and all four of them hate one another!!!! (especially the two mums)

Like ilonabryan, we are having 10 people on our top table but if either of them complain about anything, they will be demoted to a guest table!!!!

Don't know about you but i have had to consider everything from who i go dress shopping with, thankfully my mother didn't want any part of it which reduced the headache considerably. I even have to organise the order of which they all leave the church, there must always be people between them!!! It's a nightmare and one that we shouldn't have to deal with on our wedding but sometimes that's just not possible.

I really feel for you as i know how hard it can be. However, you are definitely not alone. Try to keep calm and deal with things bit by bit. I think your idea about the tables is a great idea and will solve a lot of stress on the day.

Good luck!!!

Beeny

Hi Jelly!

Ditto with the compicated family and ditto with the non-traditional top table! I'm not being given away, I'm just going to enter the room with my bm's and the top table will just have the two of us and our attendants. Parents and their partners will sit with the other guests, we are having a 'U' shaped table so we can try to seat all the VIP's near us!

Good luck, my sister got married last month and our parents and their partners were all together for the first time since the divorce, I was dreading it but they were all very civil and it wasn't too awkward which bodes well for our wedding (I hope anyway!) I'm sure they will all behave themselves after all it's only for one day and after that they don't have to see each other.....'till the next wedding!!

Hiya,

my parents are divorced and remarried so I'm going for the same as Lo - all of them on the top table with us! My brother had my mum and stepdad but not my dad and his wife, and I think my dad was really hurt - so my top table is a squashed up jamboree of divorces and remarriages!
