Default Readings

Hi Everyone,

We are planning to have a church wedding and i would like one of my best friend (also BM) to do a reading for us, however i am not too sure how it will work in the service. My H2B has been to been to a church wedding before (this will be my first!!!) and he said that they didn't have any readings and it wouldn't work but i've got my heart set on this because i think it will make it special.

Can anyone suggest a way it could work or is it best that i forget the idea all together?

Beeny (aka Sabrina)

Shouldn't be a problem.

I started a thread "Ask the Vicar!" a couple of days ago, can you add the query to that as I'm interviewing my dad about all aspects of church weddings and it will act as a reminder.

thanx,
Jx

Question

Hi Karen,

When is you uncle going to do the reading during the service? Will it be fore the actual exchange of rings? Straight afterwards? Before hymes.

Oh god, it's just so difficult to imagine the order of things when you have never been to a church wedding yourself. I always thought until recently that the bride turns up, they exchange rings, kiss, sign the register and then off to the reception. I didn't realise that there were hymes and so forth.

However, when i found out i thought it would be lovely to have some hymes and a few readings from a few close firends and it would be perfect for my friend.

I would be grateful for any advice on the subject!!!!

The way my order of service is going is

I arrive
The Minister welcomes everyone
We sing a hymn
The law decleration is read
Lighting of candles of the families
The reading by my uncle
The Marriage
Exchange of rings
Lighting of a joint candle
Hymn
The Address - This is going to be read by a vicar friend of ours
Prayers
Hymn
Signing of the register
Walking out

Hope this helps
