Brides of Southampton were really good for the Southern brides among us... www.bridesonline.co.uk .... that's where I got my dress from.
My best mate used Brides of Solihull for her wedding dress and they were nice too for the Midlanders out there.

Will remember a mother who had time to play;

I've got some Melbourne recommendations, please post here if anyone wants to hear them! Otherwise I'll be boring all you Northern Hemisphere girls to death.

For other Cork Brides that that may join in the furture I would highly recommend The Wedding Dress in Penwarfe Quay, Cork. They were so friendly and helpfull and most importantly honest if a dress doesn't suit you. Although they were rushed off their feet the day I was there, they still took time to make you feel special and well as devoting more time to ensure that you try on nearly every dress in the shop (even though the first one you tried on was "the one"!!!!) so leave you with no doubt that you made the right choice!

The shop I would recommend is thebridalroomhitchin.co.uk in Hithcen, Herts. I went there for my first look around and found my dream dress on the first trip! They are soooo friendly (esp. Caroline), and really made me feel welcome when I was petrified!
The shop I WOULDNT recommend to my worst enemy is Caroline Castagliano in London (Sorry to those that have got on well) - I phoned at the end of July to make an appointment for end Aug/beg Sept, to be told that they were FAR too busy with their current brides to fit me in - and then when I told her my date (June'03) she said that I'd left it far too late and that they could put me on thier "waiting list" for an appointment as it was so urgent..... the cheek! Needless to say I never persued that any further!

Venue in the Midlands - Bosworth Hall hotel
Have seen this slated on some sites for having more than one function a day - can honestly say that I never noticed any of the several other functions going on on the day of my wedding; was spoiled rotten and didn't have to do a thing myself - food and drink excellent; staff lovely
Could not be bettered!!!!!

Attire - Heard bad things fromothers but I've found Bell Amore in Bexleyheath EXCELLENT. Long story but didn't end up buying my dress there, but we've ended up getting the grooms outfits there (they do everything).
Venue - Heard excellent things about Maureen Camp at Turkey Mill ( www.turkeymill.co.uk) and she has so far proved to be excellent -very nice, very helpful, and the venue is fab too.

The dress was already 50% offf but they gave me another 10% off cause I was with my friend...bless

I tried a dress on at the one stop wedding shop in Sandbach yesterday, i'm a big girl and Jean made me feel so comfortable, was dreading trying anything on but I'm a lot less concerned now. Very helpful and you'll get a cuppa too!

Recommendation! :)
Would like to recommend 'Foreign Affairs' in Guildhall Road Northampton. It's a little independent boutique. The owner Chris was absolutely wonderful and treated me like a Princess. I bought my dress from her and it was delivered in just under 4 weeks.
So different from Pronuptia in Northampton who made me feel like a freak! Apart from telling the 2 other members of staff that my breasts would be a problem!!! Then when asked to leave the changing room she said, quote: "Don't worry I used to work in an old people's home I've seen a lot worse!" Needless to say I didn't buy my dress there...

Fabrics
Haven't used these directly yet, but with no obligation/no chance of business these companies were VERY pleasant and I'd do business with them if I could: - Borovick Fabrics Ltd <borovickfabrics@btclick.com>
- MacCulloch & Wallis Ltd <macculloch@psilink.co.uk>
- Michael Bristow <MBristow10@aol.com>
- Mr John Astell <enquiries@silk-shades.co.uk> www.silk-shades.co.uk
Dressmakers
Kate Jenkinson <kate.jenkinson@blueyonder.co.uk> This woman has been unbelieveably helpful, suggesting many companies/links for my fabrics. May get her to make dresses if my aunt can't help.
Florist
Fiorentina Flowers, Filomena has been VERY helpful/informative about flowers/costs in general <filomena@fiorentina.co.uk>
If I can use these guys I will because the level of helpfulness just with queries has been nothing short of fab (and refreshing, I think we all get a bit tired of being treated by wedding vendors as bottomless-pits-of-money who will spend even if service t'ain't all that!
Good luck with planning!
HTH
